Flawed Genius was invented for him.

Saw doco when it was on before. Thought it well worth the watch.

I met him once, in a bar in Manchester about 25 years ago .He was pished up but quite friendly and chatty. I got his autograph in the end - he wrote "get boozed, love Alex Higgins".

I lost it somewhere

As a young student I spent a few hours with him in the bar of a snooker club in Manchester, it was the night of the Simod Cup semi-final against Boro in 1990. I doubt he would normally have spoken to me but I had my Villa shirt on and he had money on Boro to win so was happy to talk for a while.

He had several 'hangers on' with him and was totally arseholed but actually came across as a fairly quiet and shy guy. I always remember leaving and thinking how sad it was to see one of snooker's greats in that state.

IIRC, Grahame Miles RIP honed his snooker skills in the snooker hall on Kingstanding Cirlcle.  I saw him in there enough times.

Does that snooker hall still exist, does anyone know?  Also the one at the top end of the Hawthorn Road?

Not sure.  I know the British Legion in Selly Park where (Alex) Higgins won his first title and the venue of the first World Championship (also in Birmingham) have both been knocked down. Worth a couple of blue plaques though,  I reckon.

The Kingstanding Circle one by the Cop shop is now a club I think, the one up the Hawthorn is still open.

It's still there according to Google Street View, although there's a painter and decorator's fan parked outside so maybe they were just about to get rid of it.

Not sure whether it was supposed to but that just made me laugh out loud - properly rather than In a lol sense - which was good having spend much of the day at a funeral

Not too sure but, I think there's now a statue standing there.
