Joking aside.... we've let a few gooduns slip through. Was it O'Neill that shipped out Gary Cahill to Bolton and brought in Zat Knight?   :o
Oh dear McGrath...the bi-weekly mention of Cahill being replaced by Zat Knight...
Ironically I think Zat would walk into our side now if he was still in his 20's.

Sure there are more but fuck me how low have we sunk to even consider the above at there respective ages/career levels (Cahill the exception although Chelshea have been shit this year/Southampton too)
Was my point really, we had ideas above our current station.

Maybe O'Leary had a point.

Fickle.

I don't really mean it and I know it's not the true definition of the word but us as fans have had ideas/expectations above our station for years. Most thought that all of the above mentioned players were not good enough but im sure most would take them all in a heartbeat now.

For example I see people suggesting that Jonathon Walters would be a good buy. Do people still really think Villa are a better choice than Stoke?

Having ideas above our station, if you won't pay the transfer fees and wages you can't expect to try and keep up with the big boys.

I know we tried when MON was here and he mis-spent on wages mainly, but you have to just keep going if you want to compete.

If the owner is not comfortable with how to invest his money on ten playing squad then get an experienced man in (SGT/Big Ron/Sir Brian) to help guide you on who is worth what.

We haven't competed for years in all truth, the owner and board seem to have been happy with chancing a relegation scrap  and just spending enough to keep us out of the bottom  3 come May, and now is the time that has come to finally bite them/Randy in the arse.

No plan, no correct planning for the future (remember the alleged 5 year plan to get into the champions league??) and no real investment in the first team has now resulted in us bombing out of the league with a whimper.

Disgrace of a club from top to bottom

It's not even close to the definition of the word.

Whether he had a point or not (and in the context he used it at the time, he definitely didn't), it's completed irrelevant when talking about what you're talking about here.

Maybe I shouldn't have used the O'Leary reference as a point but my main position still stands, we've derided players previously who would do a very good job for us in our current predicament.

The Jonathon Walters of this world are sadly just a pipe dream.

I was thinking the other day that Whittingham might actually be a decent signing if we'd go down.  Very experienced in the Championship and can at least take a decent set piece.

Given is not finished. He was one of our few players to emerge from our Cup Final appearance with any credit and would have been more competition for the goalkeepers position than anyone we currently have.
