There is a sort of precedent with Nike. The FA got Peter Saville, the erstwhile Factory Records designer among other things,to design an England kit which was then produced by Nike. It didn't sell well and was soon replaced.

Was that the first home shirt? White with navy round collar?

Just seen it was this one, 2010/11 - https://www.dezeen.com/2010/09/02/england-home-kit-by-peter-saville-for-umbro/

Umbro were owned by Nike at this point, this was before Nike sold them off.

Probably didn't sell well because of the poor World Cup performance. I actually really liked that shirt. Thought the little St. George's crosses in different colours was a nice feature.

Much better than the one before it.

Really excited for the new Villa kits.

He didn’t design the whole shirt, just the crosses on the shoulders. The actual shirt was designed by a lad called Rob on Villatalk. Saville was just asked to come up with something to tart it up a bit.

I didn't know that but I knew Saville was involved somewhere along the line.

Surely we will get the vapor templates from Nike?

Can't see them giving us unique ones.

Maybe Luke is just giving them help with colours and hopefully the crest.

Don't really want Nike again tbh with you. But whatever. It's hardly what matters

The crest/ badge would be great if the lion was gold instead of fucking yellow.

I see Ipswich now have 3 stars over there badge/crest, I remember we weren't allowed to get them but they have them as do Forest. The old round badge with a star would do for me.

The crest is a separate matter to the shirts as it will require significant rebranding around the stadium and elsewhere. The fact that the last 'update' to the crest still hasn't replaced the first Lerner one speaks volumes for a lot of reasons. Xia's not going to commission the rebranding until we're in a more stable position, and more importantly he would want to initiate a process of engagement and research to ensure that we will stick with what we get for the next 20+ years, otherwise it's not worth the money. Just look at Everton and Leeds to see how it can go very wrong. I know plenty of people just want the round crest back but it would require updating all the same. I would support a redesign which retained the simplicity whilst sharpening it up a bit for modern branding purposes. That said, I can guarantee someone would still be unhappy, as that's the way these things go. I wouldn't be surprised if it was another year or two before the process is kicked off.
