Can't argue with any of the points made.

At the time, anybody who said Martinez had turned us down were castigated. He had not turned us down, he had just declined to be interviewed, or he was showing loyalty to their chairman, or he had to stay in and watch the box set of The Wire.

The fact that he turned us down should have set alarm bells ringing, but then, he did not turn us down. No need for alarm.

Somebody will soon write an article on all the signs which should have set alarm bells ringing and it will read like the script for The Titanic.

Maybe the reason why we are not at Everton's level now are due to some of the signings MON made. Has been discussed many times before but we needed to move forward and didn't. Lerner has fecked up, but he took over the club at a shite time and gave MON lots of money

Not. Villa wouldn't meet the buyout clause in his contact with wigan.

The team MON left finished 6th, got to a league cup final and fa cup semi. It also went on to finish 9th, the following season albeit with one big player missing from the year before, but with a £24m striker added. He left at a bad time, spent money he was given perhaps not the best, but to say it's down to him is more than a bit daft considering the glaring cock ups those behind the manager of the team since then.

Do you have any proof of this, as I've not seen it anywhere else.

so did martinez turn us down or not

he did by not wanting to talk to us which for me was worse than him being interviewed and then refusing the job.

He showed a tremendous loyalty to Wigan right up until the point they were relegated.

He deserves plenty of stick but one thing that seems to get overlooked is the amount of money that was recouped.

The man to blame is the owner. It was his investment, his final say. When he decided he'd had enough he ripped the guts out of the squad.
Its been one fuck up after another. Madcap ideas and no leadership.

Blame the managers and feel resentment about the fans.

Decent managers are put off by the fact Lerner runs us on a relative shoestring. They take one look at the budget and reply with a polite "thanks but no thanks". That's the story of the last 5 years and that's the sole reason for our decline, in my opinion

Can't argue with any points made in that Article.

I Like Martinez but could he have saved us?
Dave rightly makes the comparison between ourselves and Everton, but we've slipped so far behind in recent seasons that I find myself comparing us to Wigan.

He didn't rip the guts or anything like - a couple of players wanted to leave and we got a daft offer for a third. We got good money for them all; how it was spent was the problem.
