The name error was seized upon with glee. I was listening to the radio and thought "why would they bother reporting that?" Then I realised that it was us they were talking about - the club that had shone the door to Lambert, McLeish and Sherwood prematurely.
I don't even bother raising an eyebrow these days; not on the club cock ups or the way the media love to knock us.
Fuck em.

We are the kid who's been knocked over in the playground and everyone is piling in with nasty little digs while we're down. We have to find a way to get back on our feet.

By the end of the season it'll be some other poor fucker, which either means we're out of it or we're already down. There's only so much stick you can take before it becomes irrelevant.

And tonight even the teacher was sniggering and taking the piss.

Excellent piece Dave - sitting here nodding in agreement with pretty-much all of it.

I would love to think that, at some stage in the not-to-distant future, Kevin MacDonald will have the balls to let everyone know exactly what point he was trying to make last night?

Good article Dave (and nice FitzGerald/FitzGerald references).

Damon's father was that little kid in the school playground way back. They even pinched his Meaning Evil charity boots. It was war time and all the spiked railings around Greet Primary had been cut down to be melted down for scrap. He picked one up and hurled at straight at the heart of his worst tormentor. The weight of the spike and his six year old arm saw the spike dip and go through the kid's leg.
He got twelve strokes of the cane across his bare arse, became the school bully and the boy with the scar on his leg became his brother's brother in law and his best mate. Lives in Weymouth now.
That's what you have to do, get on your feet and get at them.

That's a really excellent appraisal of the situation, Dave. Very good.

Let's hope your Fitzgerald/Khayyam reference turns out to be opportune, too...
Quote
...and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it

Let's hope we move on now, finally.

Having read your article, I'm feeling more positive this morning than I was last night. Cheers, Dave.

Well put, we just seem to make it too easy for people to throw rocks at us.  I really hope he can work some magic, I really do but the fear that he's an Elastoplast on a gaping mortal wound.

Thanks Dave for providing a calm & knowledgeable voice regarding the ever-ailing health of this great football club. Let's all hope that Monsieur Garde's turned up at Bodymoor with a sharpened scalpel this morning; & has immediately started the surgical intervention that the team so desperately needs.

Am I going to be the first to point out the typo on the end of the paragraph talking about taking care of the little things?

Irony. ;)
