It's my Birthday today and I would just like to thank my Uncle Tim Sherwood for buying me a new Aston Villa football team. You really shouldn't have but I'm glad you did.
Oui, je suis excite
It's great that most of these players are signing 5 year deals. It really feels like we're refreshing from the misery of the last two years. It also backs my view that whilst Benteke is brilliant, selling him and reinvesting the money across the squad could make us a much better team in the long run.

Howls repeated when Given and N'Zogbia signed similar contracts. Then came Lambert. Most people on here apparently happy that we were only signing people on 3 year contracts. End of that season, "Why did we only sign Benteke on a 3 year contract, he's holding all the aces now." 12 months later "Vlaar's only got 12 months left on his 3 years. We should have signed him on 4 years or got an extension agreed before the world cup.Now we're back to 5 year contracts for players who,Richards apart, have never played at this level before so in 6 months time we could be looking at paying Ayew £25K per week (pure guess) for 4 1/2 years.Whatever they do they're backing a loser somewhere down the line.Anyway, for what it's worth I don't see us being involved in too many 0-0 draws. It's going to flip from jaw droppingly fantastic, to watching through our fingers and back again, possibly within the same game. When it clicks it will be fantastic and when it doesn't it won't be.
After watching our defensive frailties just now ....then no i'm not excited. Just worried.Admittedly the back 4 that finished that won't be starting next week

Just worried.Admittedly the back 4 that finished that won't be starting next week That's the important bit. Why get worried about a situation that once the season starts won't repeat itself. We won't make 7 changes in a game and the defence in most cases will never change. The first choice players will be much better and will improve as they get used to each other. Now, I do think we could upgrade RB but Richards and Clark should be ok.
To be fair I think it makes much more sense to be handing out 5 year deals to young, potentially talented players like Amavi, Ayew etc than it did to say Shay Given. It seems likely that at least one or two will succeed, and hopefully more, so it stands to reason that we have as much control over their ultimate return as possible.
