Villa commentary rights bought by Absolute Radio?
« on: July 14, 2015, 11:34:49 AM »
Absolute Radio has today announced that it will broadcast on FM in the Midlands on the 105.2 frequency previously occupied by Kerrang.

Tucked away in the announcement is this:

Quote
105.2 will carry regional adverts plus some original programmes such as coverage of West Brom and Aston Villa football matches.

Guessing this means they've won some local rights from either Free or WM?

Absolute Radio broadcast the commentary from one Premier League match per week.

Occasionally that match will feature us or West Brom, most of the time it won't.

Nothing has changed in terms of commentary rights.

Edit: that's my understanding anyway

'Original programming' sounds, to me, like it's things that will only air on the Birmingham FM frequency, and not nationally on AM... so separate from its existing national commentaries.

Kerrang was my favourite station, didn't like planet rock at all, they played more American 70s & 80s tracks which I'd never heard and made me reach for the Benzedrine uh huh, so stopped listening.

Are you sure the frequency is right kenneth? Planet Rock is no more?

I found this announcement. The wording of the football coverage can be intrpeted a couple of ways but I don't read it that they've won any local rights.

Planet Rock are going digital only:

So no more Planet Rock on FM

I think PLANET ROCK should be said by one of those macho voice over artists!

AR is a London station so they were just broadcasting the odd Villa game if they played a local club.  This is a good thing as I should be able to get to hear more Villa games throughout the season, but I am pretty pleased with Fivelive's coverage even if they do whore out the big teams a bit much ;)

I think R5's coverage is superb, Pat Murphy, (who seems to do more Villa matches than most) for me, usually tells it as it is.  Yes I know for some obscure reason we're not necessarily always regarded as as a big a club as we should but I've learned to live with that.

That's the thing, and by contrast I hate Talkshite's coverage so much that even if we're on and listening is the only way to follow our game live I still won't bring myself to do it.

TalkSport are more concerned about promoting betting on games than they are on commentating on them.

Its pretty much unlistenable for me
