It'll never make a catchy song with that title.

Perversely that has made me reminisce about us losing to Arsenal in 1983. I'd managed to successfully block that out and didn't even give it a second thought before the final until you posted this. The most memorable thing for me from that day was the massive hike after the match escorted by the ever so helpful police to some distant tube station (I can't remember the name of it - but it felt like bloody miles although that could have been my frame of mind after the 2-0 defeat.) Oh well the quest for the Holy Grail continues...

After losing the 2000 final we won one tie in the next five years. Gulp.

Two memories stick out to me (negatively).  First we were bloody awful against Oldham Athletic in 1989/90. Live on telly as well. Secondly there was someone on H & V being very blasé about the match with Everton in 08/09, as we were doing well in the league that year.  Then he was equally blasé about the Europa League.  Then we f*cked up our top 4 chances.

Don't forget the old 'Villa have a good cup pedigree' that was always pedalled out by TV/press a few years back...............from the 19th century maybe, yes.

It's an appalling record, to the point where you just have to laugh about it. Look at the state of the 2000's. Bloody hell.

I learned something from this thread.

We have played in the 1st round of the FA Cup, but never in the 2nd round.

I seem to remember we took a real pasting off Everton, didn't we?

Looking on the bright side, the Noses list of exits is a damn sight longer.
