Didn't pickles the dog find the cup?

I thought we'd lost but then found it?

That was the World Cup.  We lost the FA Cup (more times than they've ever won it) and it never resurfaced.

Let's hope there's a few nervous security guards come Saturday night.

Ta muchly; thanks for jogging my memory.

How briefly did we lose the European Cup and does that story involve the Scot Arms?

The fact that a couple of players took the European cup to a pub for a piss up and lost it just seems incredulous

The chances of that not being leaked to the press now, or of the players not being castigated for reckless behaviour, or of two players mixing with fans and playing darts, must be minimal.

Years ago (15?) I played for a decent non-League team in Herts, currently Southern Conf. We won a cup at the end of the season and a about six of us stole it and 'took it for a drink'. By about 10pm we were playing 'catch' with it. The inevitable happened and it was dropped. We took it clubbing and I awoke about 10am'ish with a bad neck; I'd slept on the cup.
We later found out it was almost 100 years old and now had a bent arm and a slightly skew stem. We returned it to the club and legged it...luckily it was never mentioned.
We were presented it again at a dinner about two months later, myself and the other berks involved said nothing.

It's hard to believe now, but it's true that they casually lugged the cup around various pubs and clubs. I had some photos taken holding it with Gary Shaw and Gordon Cowans on either side. It was just a small Social Club in Handsworth Wood.

After the Tony Barton memorial dinner we carried the League Cup from the ICC to the Copthorne. I got asked to take it back to Villa Park and it was in my house all afternoon.
