It's like Townsend. He his a bit part player for Spurs yet makes the England squad because he's been decent in previous games. It takes away a spot from a form player like Cleverely who deserves to be in there purely on merit.

If it wasn't for his St Mary's performance which Woy went to watch , he's in that squad is TC.

Yet he was also at the Everton game where Cleverley was not only brilliant but scored one of our goals of the season. That on the back of a string of very good performances. I would hope one bad team performance wasn't the deciding factor in not picking him and picking someone like Ryan Mason instead.

Was Woy at the Everton game ? Don't recall that.
Remember back in the day when Cappello was virtually a ST holder down B6

Hodgson has previously said that he wants players to be playing well for a sustained length of time before they get a call-up. Look at Delph - he was playing well for about a year before he got called up. Cleverley's only been playing well since Sherwood came in so he needs to continue with this form, hopefully with us. I imagine this point will be argued on the basis of other call-ups but other positions aren't as competitive.

Fair enough as a theory for player selection. The fact is that he doesn't practice what he preaches.

Have Lallana, Mason, Walcott, Townsend, Barkley been playing well consistently for the last couple of months? Just an excuse for Woy to use I reckon.
