I thought this thread was about what song we should sing.   Such a shame Gil is Carles not Jesus because if he was we could sing the song our Wesleyan founders doubtless sang.

Onward Christian's soldiers,
Marching as to war.
Meets the cross of Jesus
That makes number four.

In 2000, I contacted the management of Super Furry Animals asking them to do our Cup Final song, on the strength of one of the members (Bumpf, I think) professing himself a Villa fan. I got no response, but still think it would be ace.

Some nice footage in this video, I know a few don't like the song though!

I hope they don't play that godawful "Aston Villa That's Who" nonsense again.  It's beyond awful.
Considering we go way back to music days Risso, and I know me saying this will have no effect on you whatsoever, but I think you are way off on this one. I think it's a damn good effort, it's nice the musicians and video* guy just got off their backsides and did what they wanted to without anyone orchestrating it (I think), and I think it's catchy and different enough.

I realise this is sacrilege to some, but if we have to go through a whole official song again, I'd rather it was this than TFAUSM, which I've never been able to connect with on any level. The obvious singalong unifying is Ghostriders (debate the version, but is *our* song like no other), but back to my point, am not letting this track get slated by Risso on a couple of threads without standing up for it!

*And not just because I'm in it on the Holte :-)

I thought 'Aston Villa That's Who' was generally positively received until the moment we chose it as our Wembley song.

It's actually a tune with potential to slowly organically grow as a terrace anthem, but having it as our cup final anthem 'forces' it in a way which is counter productive. It's a bit like when we recorded a version of The Bells are Ringing - it had been a good club anthem, which we would have liked to get going again, but you can't push these things - it never works.

I actually don't think there'll be any big deal about the anthems at the final, it was clearly just an excuse to let Liverpool do YNWA without looking like they were giving them preferential treatment, but as they did ours 20 minutes before kick off and their 2 minutes before kick off, it was pretty transparent.

The Cup Final anthem in Abide With Me - it'll be left there.

And we have our own version of that from the 1970's ('77 LC Final?) although I can only remember a couple of lines these days "We've travelled far, Divisions Two and Three, Now Kings of England, Oh Abide With Me....."

If someone does pen a new song for Wembley, I hope they find a way of including the immortal words from this site

'we'll fuck the fuckers'.

A song won't be complete without them.

I remember the Brigada lads trying to get 'Three Little Birds' going a while back. I'd love to hear the Holte in full voice singing it. It would sound something like this..........
