Apparently Carver is not the only one who can hold a grudge up there.

Shearer waits 15 years to have a dig at Gullit.

Shambolic really.
The season highlight could well be the fact we Didn't sign Ricky Lambert.

Might well have kept us up if we got him in. Lambert is a clever player best suited to dropping off the front man like Robbie Keane. His legs look shot at Liverpool but like Keane he is completely unsuited to their style of play. Would have done a good job for us for 12-18 months.

He should have been the type of player we went for a couple of summers back when we instead got in the likes of Kozak and Helenius.

In the short term he'd have been a god send I reckon. That said he's 33 and we'd offered him a 2.5 year deal. It would have been very much an MON-esque signing.

Bit unfair on Kozak, he was doing OK until the injury - hardly his fault.

Helenius - a (cheap) gamble.  Again who knows what might have been if not for illness followed by depression.

Kozak is younger and cheaper than Lambert. I'd go for him every time and you could still afford Helenius with the loose change.

I always wonder if he played like he did against Hull in the game that our scout went to, when he was playing for Chesterfield.

I am more than a little surprised that the last day bid for Ricky Lambert has merited so little discussion.  An astonishing episode if you ask me.

According to Tom Fox we'd been after him for weeks but it was only late on that Liverpool agreed to sell him.
Maybe but if we needed a striker than why wait til quarter to midnight for a yes or no from Lambert?

Dave is a little out on that. Lambert P. Fancied him as a player to help us and we had spoken earlier in the month. They said no. Then called us to resurrect it at lunchtime on deadline day, obviously without consultation with the player.

The impression I got was that we didn't think "we needed" a striker, just that TOSM thought he might be useful.

Interesting. It's a bit odd though that they would call us to try and get the deal to happen, when according to both them and the player they didn't mind whether he stayed or left.

Why would they bother spending time trying to resurrect it, if they weren't fussed if it happened or not?
