It hasn't been an easy year Chez Mike, for reasons that are much more important than football, but the silly thing is that I still feel a bit sadder this morning because Aston Villa are in the second tier.

We need to hit next season feeling like a different club. We need an excuse to sell half season tickets really cheaply in the Upper Trinity. We need to use every advantage of just how bloody huge we are to create a force of momentum next season that is unstoppable.

If we can turn around thw oil tanker at the start of next season, we become a juggernaut going in the right direction. But everyone. EVERYONE. Has to be on the same team.

Also worth remembering that Newcastle are going to lose players too. Especially considering they don't have relegation clauses in a lot of their contracts. Ashley might want to move some players on because of that. Both us and Newcastle are going to look different come August.

A lot of debate on this last year and I can say with absolute certainty that I enjoyed yesterday more than any Villa game I've watched since the 6-1 twatting of Sunderland.

Frankly, I don't care if we're beating 90% of Prem teams or Rotherham, a win is an enjoyable experience.

Agreed. Yesterday was more enjoyable than any league game over the last few years. Please don't mention Sunderland, though. Sad face.

It was "only Rotherham."

I'll enjoy this league a lot more when we're beating the other promotion contenders on a regular basis...Sheff Weds, Newcastle, Norwich, Brighton, Derby etc.

Still looking forward to the Huddersfield game anyway.

It's definitely more fun than losing all the time in the Prem.

I was really worried about relegation, as if Randy hadn't sold us we would be on a Blackburn Rovers Venky trajectory now. So I would have even accepted a Pullis or Fat Sam type appointment to keep us up there last year. However given the choice between having stayed up and status quo under Randy, or new ownership under Dr Tony and us being competitive in the championship.

End of the day I just like seeing us going into games knowing we have a chance of winning. It's shaping up to be a great year.

As long as we go straight back up, this season is going to be a riot, but I aint got no crystal ball.
