Assistant Manager
« on: January 17, 2015, 06:23:57 PM »
I've just asked this on the the post-match thread, but why don't we have one?

Roy Keane left nearly 2 months ago. I can only assume that either Lambert doesn't think it's a particularly urgent matter or we are being turned-down left, right and centre. Surely there are options out there though? Paul Jewell? Mike Phelan? Brian Little? Any number of experienced ex-Managers/Coaches who could come in and offer a fresh perspective on things. In his current predicament I would have thought it would be a pressing concern for him.

I watched an old interview with Neil Warnock earlier and he said that he always likes to have 2 assistants, one to bounce ideas-off in the dug-out and one watching the game from the stands, which struck me as complete common sense. When was the last time you saw Lambert plotting anything in the dug-out, or even having a conversation with one of his team?

I've always thought that it must be one of the best jobs in football. There as an observer and sounding-board with no real pressure on your head, probably being paid a small fortune. Anyone coming into the club now would be pretty much guaranteed all of the credit for any improvement made, and no risk of any flak should the current malaise continue. It worried me greatly the other day when Lambert said he'd "had no time for coaching" because of the Christmas fixtures that we're not really making much of an effort to find one.

The successful Villa managers like Saunders, Taylor, Atkinson, Little and MON were very specific with their assistants. Lambert seems hit and miss. I think we have a few ex players who could do a job. Swain, Platt, Neilson, Richardson, Saunders, Parker, and Staunton all have coaching experience for a start.

Someone who wants to be given a go as a caretaker PL manager from Easter to the end of the season. ;)

His mucker in Gillette Fusion/Mach4/the best a man can get, Charlie Nicholas said he should get Jewelly in - Paul Jewell, not Julie from Accounts.

And how about an attacking coach? It's obvious that that's our problem so why not someone who could at least look to improve us in that department. I'm sure other clubs do.

He says we're excellent every single week, so I guess we don't really need one.

I would appoint Staunton and Saunders. One a defender and one an attacker. One good cop and one a bad cop. Staunton was a bad loser (that's a compliment), Saunders a joker. And when it comes to the "show us your caps and medals" cliche they have quite a few.

The way the club is being run these days,it is probably a cost cutting measure to save money having no assistant

Maybe it's simply about money and saving it so he has some for transfers. Our credibility is dropping by the week, I wonder who'd want to come.

Randomly, I just glanced at Twitter and there's a rumour that Marcus Allback has been sounded-out about the position. Probably bullshit, but interesting nonetheless...

Allback? Why not get Bosko and Hassan Kachloul in on it too?
