Villa v Liverpool: Roadworks affecting post-match journey
« on: January 16, 2015, 02:55:24 PM »
This could be useful to most who are driving to this, and future, games. I've put in the links so you can click for the maps and info.

There will be major roadworks around J6 of the M6 this weekend for the game against Liverpool - continuing on until May 1.

This will prevent both Northbound and Southbound access to the M6 via the Salford Circus junction after our matches.

Both of the M6 on-slip carriageways from the Salford Junction traffic junction will be closed 24/7 - and during this period we have several home matches.

Please note this is the on-slip carriageways (you will be unable to get back on the M6 without using diversionary and alternative routes).

The off-slip carriageways will still be available.

Therefore, you can use J6 before the match, but please read the following information prior to starting your journey to Villa Park.

Both before and after matches, there will be speed restrictions, and some lane restrictions on the A38 (M) expressway.

It is impossible to predict the impact this will have on post-match traffic, so it is essential that supporters attending any of our matches during this period plan their journey - both knowing before you set off where you intend to park and post-match understanding the route you will take to get back on the motorway and/or away from Villa Park.

If you do not use the motorway, then it is important to understand if your local journey could be affected by the additional traffic placed on diversionary and alternative routes.

General advice

Do not use our postcode (B6 6HE) in your GPS navigation devices, unless you have a stadium car park pass. Use the postcode / address information for the official car park you intend to use. To visit our transport map showing the locations of official car parks CLICK HERE.

The further away you park from the stadium, the easier and quicker your post-match journey will be.

Specific advice to supporters

If you are travelling from the NORTH WEST or SOUTH WEST

If you are travelling from the north on the M6, or from the south west on the M5, do not, under any circumstances, drive past J7 (of the M6) to get to J6. Avoid J6 altogether both before and after the match. Allow for additional traveling time before the match. At J7, the route to official car parks is via the A34 (signposted Birmingham A34).After passing signs for Alexandra Stadium stay in the nearside lanes. Official car parks are located on the left hand side (Perry Barr Stadium, Birmingham City University etc). Car parks at the north end of the stadium range from a 15 to 25 minute walk to Villa Park. Allow enough time to walk to the stadium.

Post-match - use the A34 after the match to access J7.

Please click here for a DETAILED MAP to show the post-match route to J7 of the M6.

If you are traveling from the SOUTH EAST or NORTH EAST and use J6 of the M6 - signposted A38 (M)

The A38(M) takes you towards the city centre and you can see Villa Park on your right hand side. Stay in the left hand lane and exit the A38(M) at the first junction. This is a traffic island known as Park Circus. Official car parks (Aston Tower School, King Edward School etc) are located after the second exit and accessed via Victoria Road. Car parks located in this area range from a 15 to 25 minute walk to Villa Park. Allow enough time to walk to the stadium.

Post-match - your route back to the M6 (both Northbound and Southbound) is via Park Circus on the A38(M).Please note this is the main diversionary route being signposted for all traffic to access the M6, so expect it to be busy.An alternative route would be using Victoria Road towards the City Centre. At the traffic Island you can take the 3rd exit on to the A34 which will take you to Junction 7 of the M6 and the M5 South.

Please CLICK HERE for a map to show the post-match routes to the M6.

If you are traveling from the SOUTH EAST or NORTH EAST and use J6 of the M6 - signposted A38

This route brings you to the Salford Circus traffic island (underneath spaghetti junction). By turning right at this Island on the Lichfield Road, you can access official car parks such as Star City, Endeavour Coaches (cars only), Powerleague and Aston Social Club. Car parks located in this area range from a 10 to 35 minute walk to Villa Park. Allow enough time to walk to the stadium.

There are two options to access the motorway after the match. Either follow the signposted diversionary routes along the Lichfield Road, which take you to Park Circus and the A38(M).If you use Powerleague, Star City or Endeavour Coaches (cars only), then an alternative route to access the M6 South only would be to use the Heartlands Parkway and then the Fort Parkway (past the Fort Shopping Centre) to J5 of the M6. Please note J5 offers Southbound access only.

Please CLICK HERE for a map to show the post-match routes to the M6.

Local routes avoiding the M6

A large number of fans have their own routes and preferences for parking. We would suggest that you plan extra time for your journey, particularly after matches, and try to avoid routes that will be heavily congested with diversionary traffic (Lichfield Road, Park Circus etc).

If you are travelling from north of Villa Park (Sutton Coldfield, Erdington etc) then accessing Villa Park via the College Road and using car parks North of the stadium (Perry Barr, Barn Social Club, Beaucrest or Broadway School) should help avoid diversionary routes.

Travelling from the city centre - the flyover at Dartmouth Circus (Aston Road) has been closed for some time, and can cause delays for fans approaching Aston. The A34 is an alternative route out of the city towards Villa Park.
