"But, and more than anything such a fact shows the mediocrity of the “greatest league in the world,” if we’d held on in those three games I mentioned at the weekend rather than throwing away late leads we’d have gone up to sixth in the table".

Agree with this Dave, especially the bit about the mediocrity of the league.  Take away the games against the far superior Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea and we've only lost three out of the other eleven games (two of those being the galling home defeat to Spurs and the self inflicted debacle at QPR).  Not great, but not exactly disastrous.  It just goes to show how bad the league is when we've been so poor, yet not that many teams outside those playing in the Champions League have been able to beat us so far.

Fun fact of the day. We've kept more clean sheets in the league than Chavski, Citeh and Arsenal*

Spot-on Dave.  It was a fun read, and did a good job in readdressing some of the balance from the match thread.

I don't see the point mentioning us in relation to how poor this league is. Of course you may well be right, but that has nothing to do with anything.  As long as we start winning and looking like a better team then I don't really care about the strength of the league.

Good article, so very true about the standard of the league. At this rate we'll qualify for Europe and the outsiders looking in will be telling us all what a genius Lambert is.

Good stuff - as usual

'Maybe, just maybe, this was the turning point although I’d say that with a bit more conviction if it hadn’t been said a dozen times before during the past two and a half years. '

And therein lies the problem. Already had to give the resident Spud supporter at work a dressing down for suggesting that this could be a used as a building block.

Good one, as ever, Dave.
A lot of teams will play the "if" card but it seems to be particularly applicable to us over recent games.

Agree with GB - the standard of the league isn't an issue. It's not our fault if the opposition ain't much cop. Should imagine a few of our opponents have considered this too.

Onward and upward!

Mere details. Though wouldn't mind betting it will still apply to at least one of the three tomorrow. Optimism rules.

Saw a tweet yesterday that read something like "the EPL is really just an 18-team battle against relegation"

The tactic of bringing Sanchez on to close out a game, may just work.

And it would be amusing to stink out the Europa League.
