Ridiculously cheap Villa programmes ?
« on: November 25, 2014, 09:45:18 PM »
Reading the classifieds in the Sutton Observer for the first time in years I noticed this.

ASTONVILLAVNEWCASTLE 1924 FACUP FINAL PROGRAMME PLUS THE TICKET £20,1913 FACUP FINAL ASTON VILLA VSUNDERLAND PROGRAMME£15,1897 FINAL V EVERTON £10

http://classifieds.suttoncoldfieldobserver.co.uk/search/sports-and-hobbies-antiques-antiques-and-collectibles/page%207

Is somebody having a laugh ? Has apathy caused the market to completely collapse on all things Villa ?

If something appears to good to be true it probably is and I wont be pursuing it. Something is amiss. Anybody seen these type of ads before ? What's it all about ?

There are a number of various reprints/ copies floating about, they appear on Ebay from time to time.

Villa programmes fetch next to nothing.

I recently bought 22 from the 1976/77 season for £2.99. I was the only bidder.

Although, you can pay up to £15 or £20 for a 1982 European Cup Final programme

I was idly watching Flog It the other day and a guy had some wonderful programmes mainly from the 40s and early 50s. The pick of the bunch was a Villa programme from 1949 which in graphic design terms was head and shoulders above anything else. Also in the lot was an Arsenal v Villa programme from the mid thirties which was also lovely. The lot went for nearly 200 quid.

These cheap copies are reprints. There are quite a few dealers producing them. Programmes (of all clubs) are not worth much unless they are pre 1950s or a special game such as a cup final. I bought a copy of the 1920 Final. It was interesting to read but obviously not the real deal.

Wouldn't mind even a copy of the 1924 Cup Final programme...Uncle Frank was captain that day, and captained England v Scotland the week after!

The hunt begins...

Good luck - it's just about the most valuable of the lot for two reasons. It was made of cheaper paper than 1923 and didn't last, plus it rained so a lot of them were used as makeshift hats.

Anyone know how much the CSKA v Villa (that MON moment) programme is worth ? Bought mine outside I assume it's official.

silhill, there were three different progs knocking about for that game I belive, The Uefa one (looks like the Slavia Prague prog), and two locally produced ones. The Uefa one was about £4 - 4.50 iirc. Probably only worth the same now.
