The FA cup game at OT where we held out manfully until the goalie Kirali? Decided to jump over the ball in the last minute.

I remember another game against Spurs in the O'Leary season where we could have gone down.

Allback scored the opener but they came back and Rohan Ricketts scored a lucky effort from near the touchline.

That game reminded me of today's.

We've had so many of these occasions in the last ten years or so I've come to expect them now. We are bottlers by nature.

This was very bad in terms of hurt. Almost as bad as all the manu reversals we have had at Villa Park however more gut wrenching because of the unfairness. Unfair that Spurs should have had both Vertonghen and Mason sent off. Unfair at that cruel deflection that took the ball away from Guzan as he moved left to catch it.

Man United cup loss 2002, Man United in the Final 2014, Man United at home in Lambert's first season, Man United everytime we've played them since 1995 bar two wins. Wimbledon away 1994-95 season. Arsenal at home 1996, we threw away a 2 goal lead and were denied top spot. Chelsea 8-0 Villa. Shit theres too many of them.

I don't think I have ever been so angry after a game as the Stoke 2-2. They were the poorest sides we have ever played a league game against at Villa Park and they were dead and burried.

That game, alongside the signing of Heskey, heralded the end of the Brave New World under Lerner in my humble opinion.

Every other gut wrench pales into insignificance alongside the FA Cup Final 2000 for me.

The Man U cup game and the derby with the last minute equaliser already mentioned were dark, very dark. This thread's actually cheering me up as it shows that I do get over these things eventually.  All that's needed is time and electro convulsive therapy.

The 4-4 MNF at spurs was gut wrenching having lead 4-1 and taking the piss out of spurs with the happy birthday to you chants and have that tossed back at you .

Losing 2-1 at the Hawthorns in 1984 after being 1-0 up with 3 minutes to go - Carl Valentine FFS, what made it worse was that I was in the Brummie Road End too.

03-03-03. Horrible, poisonous experience in every possible way.

FA Cup QF away at 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' in 92. Referee in their pocket again.

FA Cup QF away at Oldham in 90. GT mark1  brain fade game.

Losing 3-0 in the San Siro in 1990. Cheating bastards.

Losing away at Norwich in the run in in March 93. Played them off the park and lost.

Losing at home to Oldham in final home game the same season - not that we're favourites to win the League by then of course, far from it, but it just confirmed that we wouldn't be winning it (I'd been in complete denial) and were now handing Sky the victory they so desperately wanted. The Theatre of fecking Dreams was born!!  I remember going straight home (no pub) and out for a walk after this match - I felt devastated.

And finally.......  FA Cup Final 2000 - felt worse than all of the above combined.

The 2 2 Stoke will always be the worst for me because it heralded the end of all our dreams.

The 0 1 defeat to Millwall in the Cup is another horrible memory.   Firstly because I shall take to my grave the belief that we had at least one player on the pitch that night with money on a Millwall win and also because, within two minutes walk of my son's house, he and I were kettled into that  spiked railings stalag for away fans at their contemptible ground, in temperatures of minus 5 ( I truly thought I was going to die) for an hour while the cockney madmen were allowed to leave the ground and still ambush two coach loads of Villa fans.   From the stalag we were forced by the police to travel to London Bridge where we had to wait half an hour for a train to take us back to where we came from two minutes from my son's house.   That one sticks in my mind.

Any time we lose.

Definitely agree with this.

This morning was bad. I was in the gym and the NZ morning news said we were winning 1-0. I then saw Sky News on another channel and even though the sound was down you could see the Spurzzz players celebrating and I just knew we had blown it.

The Bradford semi final for me is the worst in recent memory. I was in oz for the couple of Wembley trips a couple of years back and had been hoping to go there (new Wembley) for the first time with the Villa (having not been at all since '96, I was working for the Chelsea final). We got great seats, I took the missus, all the family, we had a great couple of beers in the uni bar before, everything was alligned....then Villa managed to produce the shittest, most inept display I can remember. That was the day I lost faith in Lambert. If he goes next week this is the reason I wont feel bad for him.

3-0 defeat Boxing Day 1982. The European champions had their arses handed to them by that lot down the road.
0-3 Wimbledon 1990  -  3 days after a magnificent win at Spurs, we royally fuck it up and then go on a run that sees us blow the league title.
