I'm sure Denis Law did relegate them with that goal.

Perhaps not:

Quote
Law was then offered a contract by Manchester City manager Johnny Hart, scoring two goals on his debut against Birmingham City in the opening game of the season 1973–74. He made 27 full appearances and two as substitute in that season, including City's 2–1 defeat in the League Cup final against Wolves. In City's last game of the 1973–74 season against Manchester United at Old Trafford, Law's 81st-minute back-heeled goal gave City a 1–0 win but, thinking his goal had relegated United, he did not celebrate it. It turned out they would have been relegated whatever the result, but Law did not know this at the time and walked off the pitch with his head down as he was substituted immediately afterwards. A pitch invasion by Manchester United fans followed, forcing the referee to abandon the game in the 85th minute. After a review, the Football League decided that the result should stand.

Yes David Platt definitely didn't celebrate his goal at VP for Arse. Always some debate on how much stick he got in that game, I do recall some booing and remember the Match of the Day commentator that night mentioning it too.

When Platt came out to warm up before that game he came to applaud the Holte. He got a decent reception as I recall but it was 19 years ago.

You can still celebrate whilst not "rubbing it in". You'd have thought Lampard was at a funeral for the look on his face. For Christ sake you could at least smile, you just scored your first goal for your new club. What a w#nker.

He did, and at the final whistle he ran over to the Holte and applauded the Villa fans.

The most stupid one was when Holi whatshisname from Norwich who we nearly signed didn't celebrate when he scored against us last season

Wasn't that because he was still hopeful of signing for us?

As I said on the other thread, it should be a yellow card for not celebrating and a red for any of those stupid, poxy choreographed celebrations.

For a player who has done as much for one club like Lampard did, I can't see the problem with what he did. It does happen far too often, but what he achieved with them is beyond what most even dream about let alone come close to matching.

I'd agree with that. When players do it after spending 1 year at a club then it's a bit twattish.

Lampard was there a very long time and wasn't he top premiership scorer or something? He did only leave a few months ago so i can understand it.

Didn't Lukaku do it last season after scoring against the Bitters? He was only on loan at the dump.

I don't mind it, players are different from fans, we support one club (generally), players can have an affinity with several clubs and several sets of fans, if they don't want to celebrate in front of fans who were singing their praises previously then fine, it doesn't stop us going mental in the stands does it?
