Perhaps this Burnley fan should have a word with A Lochhead Esq at their next home match. I think Andy might put him right!

Believe me, he was put right. When he came down for breakfast this morning it was noticeable that he avoided making any form of eye contact and sat well away from our table.

I might have been hallucinating, but as well as borrowing our colours I believe I read somewhere that we played them in the first game at Turf Moor to inaugurate the ground.   What with us being a big draw at the time, and all that.

Believe we did the same for Bristol Rovers and a few others too.
We also, back in the day, played Tottenham in a series of three friendlies in London to help them raise enough money to become a league club.  It's something I should point out to Spurs fans on a more regular basis.

Bit like the cricket counties slagging off The Bears for daring to use the name of their home territory.   Several of them were more than glad of Warwick pools money to help them survive.

Burnley changed kit to claret and blue in 1911 in the hope that copying us would help them have more luck and win more.

I see PWS didn't hang about in getting his "George" idea up and running.

I had a discussion with a Spurs fan on holiday recently who refused to acknowledge that we have won the European Cup.

It's quite interesting to be standing near Mr.McGregor's statue on matchdays and listening to some of the questions and answers about him.
The most common one is "Who's he?" answer "Probably one of their old chairmen."
Another one I overheard once was that "He's the bloke who built Villa Park."
But fair play to The Arsenal fan a couple of seasons ago with a couple of kids in tow who asked him the question and he was spot on, "If it wasn't for him we wouldn't be watching league football nowadays, that man came up with the idea and it weren't a bad one was it?" The two lads then posed for photo's in front of the statue.

Nice to hear that Arsenal fan knew his onions.

I have a mate who is Arsenal and I often meet him and his dad when they can get to the game at VP. I took them on a mini tour of the outside of the ground one year and made sure they knew about the statue. Even took them past The Holte End and they loved how The Holte looked from outside.
