Toffees sang " Everton are magic, Everton are magic , nah nah nah nah " ad nauseum

Lee, that link just sounds like a clip from Jazz Club on the Fast Show.

Nice.

Ah, so is that where it comes from?

I'm an Aston Social drinker. So I'm not sure on the Yenton reference either, hence asking.

I have a new one as well.

Spinsky, rolls the ball to Platty, on to Paul Mcgrath and out to Tony Daley. Tony Daley down the wing like a torpedo, he puts the ball in airrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, for Tony Cascarino.

The first time I heard that was on a ferry en route to the San Siro in 1990.  The first time I sang about Villa being magic and blues being tragic was when I was in infant school in the seventies before I had ever been to a game.

I used to sing, "Villa are magic, Blues are fucking shit." It didn't rhyme, but I still got expelled at the age of 6. Bastards.

I have heard it doesnt matter if it rhymes so long as the atpostrophes are in the right place.

Ps, dont dare start on me about punctuation this week because whilst Im away I am stuck with an ipod that may well get stamped on before the week is out! ;)

The "tragic" bit was introduced by Emlyn Hughes at the homecoming after Liverpool won the European Cup a month later when he took the mike and started singing "Liverpool are magic, Everton are tragic, nah nah nah nah"

I'm pretty sure the "Nigel Spink rolls the ball to Platty" song was born on the way to Ostrava a few weeks earlier.

I always wondered why Platty was so deep in defence in the first place.

Given a new contract after a good start,

You're going to be given a new contract after a good start.

Oh sorry, that was a bit positive, wasn't it?

I vaguely recall somebody writing an article in H&V, slagging off our tactics because Platt was at the back!

Tony Daley did put most crosses in the air. Behind row Z. And what would be the fecking point of crossing it to Cascarino anyway?

I need a lie down.

It's telling that the narrative breaks off before we discover what Tony Cascarino does with the opportunity presented to him.
