I hope this doesn't mean that Baker is playing at right-back, or indeed in the first team.

That also applies to Joe Bennett and Ciaran Clark .

If numbers 1-11 actually meant anything at all we'd rarely see the likes of Delph, Richardson, Bent, Benteke, Kozak etc.

I assume that Benteke was offered 9 but didn't want it

I assumed it has been left free to accommodate a big money signing. Or a left field, free transfer wtf? signing.

Bent seems a strange choice for 19 though after it having a year off in deference for Petrov.

he wore 9 and 25 at Genk and wears 9 for Belgium, but has always worn 20 with us. Maybe it just isn't a big deal to him.

Baker was number 2 last year. Appropriately.

I look at that squad and think, who would other teams in the league be looking at and thinking "I wish we had them". Other than Ron Vlaar, I don't think there's anyone. And even the top 4 teams may not particularly want Vlaar for a first team spot.

Squad numbers don't mean anything, i don't understand why people get worked up about them.

A better example of where the squad is would be to go through the squads of the other 12-13 teams in the league who are playing for mid-table and decide how many you'd really want to sign.

From our squad I'd think most teams would pick out Guzan, Vlaar, Delph and Benteke as players to sign, and I think the evidence is that Okore and Kozak could join that group if they can stay fit.  I doubt there's many sides that you'd come up with a similar 5-6 players that you would desperately want to sign.

Our good players are exactly that, it's the not so good players which are the problem, I think we've got guys with the potential to be good but things aren't working for them right now.

Generally I would agree, but they definitely seemed to mean something at Villa last summer.
