Leicester 2 Villa 4 - Championship winning season

One of my first away days as a youngster, and still one of my all time favourites.

I was in the upper tier behind the goal with the hordes of Villa fans beneath us.

What a great match and day.

That was during the bit of the season Ferguson used to call squeaky bum time. I remember following the game on BRMB. It is weird the things you remember. I recall it being on the same day as a big race. Grand National maybe? I was only ten. Is there a better example of 1980's Midlands football than Steve Lynex? My first visit to Filbert Street was in 1984. We lost 2-0 and Steve Foster made his debut for us. Probably not quite up there with the '81 game when it comes to classics.

It certainly looked like it belonged in 2013-14 rather than 1980-81 that's for sure.

It was a perfect day.

I was behind that goal to the right (seats, back row of the upper tier).

Albion beat Ipswich 3-1 so results were really going for us.

It was Grand National day,  Bob Champion on Aldaniti at 10/1....I'd put twenty quid on it.  :)

Interesting to see how many of our fans are in the home end when Morley scores the fourth!

I remember back in those days we used to complain about players not being able to use both feet but in that vid Bremner scored with his left , Morely scored with his right and Mortimer took a corner with his left. There were probably other examples I missed.

There really should be no excuse for players not being able to use either foot when needed.

Don't know about that but it was on the same day as The Eurovision Song Contest.

One bit of dribbling from Sid on the edge of their area is absolutely sublime. What a legend that guy is.

I have always thought Tony Morley was right footed. But it says everything that he appeared so comfortable on either foot it is hard to tell.

Tony Morley was more right footed than left, but was excellent with both. Syd wass brilliant with both feet.

As for the game, superb atmosphere and the Baggies helped us massively that day and it was a major day in us winning the league. Didnt we play them a few days later and Batson put it perfectly in the path of Peter Withe in the last minute? Happy days

I remember drinking in The Turnstile pub before the game which was completely taken over by Villa.

Games at Filbert Street always seemed to have a bit of a moody edge to them. Their fans always appeared to be 'up for it'. I think I recall Russell Osman giving us away fans a V sign on one occasion. I always found Oxford a bit of a moody away trip too.

I remember that game vividly, I was sat in the main stand with my dad, sisters and brother in law, I was studying at Leicester Polytechnic at the time, and was living in a house just around the corner from Filbert Street.
