Bottles were said to be thrown at police by Everton and Lille fans who then attempted to deal with the situation using tear gas and firecrackers. Initial eports of rubber bullets being used were ruled out by the club.

Something similar happened to Celtic fans in Amsterdam when they played Ajax last year.

I can honestly say I've never seen what any of the fuss is about Balotelli as a footballer.

I'd still swap him for N'zogbia
Careful what you wish for John. I don't envision Balotelli being at a top club when he moves on from Liverpool. He'll end up somewhere like a Newcastle, or god forbid us if we were looking to blow some Benteke money (were we to sell him).
His days of being at the likes of Milan, City etc will soon be numbered. He's really marked his card. Short of an inspirational turnaround in attitude and form this season.

I think he's made a lot of money and is a bit bored of football, hence not trying very hard.

Probably. David Bentley was interviewed recently saying that he'd never found himself particularly interested in being a footballer. Found it all quite boring and didn't particularly enjoy any of it except when he was on the pitch (even then it didn't always look like he enjoyed that much at Spurs and the 20 clubs they loaned him out to).
He's now running a restaurant I think...off the proceeds of the huge wages he mugged from his clubs.

I've said before about Curcic, he hated football and only played it so as he was able to provide for his family.

From Wiki about Bentley

Quote
On 13 June 2014, Bentley announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 29, having been without a club for over a year. He stated in an interview that he had fallen out of love with football, calling the modern game "robotic" due to the influence of social media and money, as well as "predictable and a bit too calculated". He said that he wished to spend time with his three children.[45][46] By October 2014, Bentley was a co-owner of a restaurant in Marbella, Spain, where he and his family had moved to. Bentley has also invested in beach clubs.[44]

It's been kicking in in Lille with between Lille hooligans and Evertonians and now police. They've tear gased  them in the main square apparently.

Reading the Everton forums it appears everybody having a great time in the square, somebody let off a flare then plain clothed police carrying bars/sticks start laying into the Everton fans. Being plained clothed, some thought it was another attack from group that attacked Everton supporters last night. A few bottles got thrown in their direction, then the riot police pile in with tear gas.

By all accounts it appears to have been a stupidly OTT provocation from the French police. Everton fans have a great record around Europe but no doubt they'll get the blame today.

Photo here of plain clothes in the square. Judge for yourself.

Whilst I wish poor treatment on no football fan, and having been on the receiving end a few times on the continent myself, I don't accept Everton as having a fabulous record when travelling.

Some of theirs followed Liverpool in their heyday and spent the trip fighting and knocking over shops, as well as some quite nasty incidents abroad they orchestrated following their own club.

Tottenham are playing Asteras  Tripolis in the Europa League. I thought he was the shipping magnate that married JFK's widow.

Yep, super goal.

Hat-trick for Harry Kane as well, which will probably get him in the next England squad.

And probably dubbed the new Gary Lineker and saviour of the English game.

The Europa League is an absolute farce.
