Club president
« on: June 25, 2014, 07:56:34 AM »
Not a  new topic but cannot find the old one. This is rewferring tot he idea that we may need a cuddly man at the top to bring out club news to the players that will have us listening to because of his position with the fans.

Allt he football names that have mentioned have been largely dismissed for varying reasosn so it seems that an ex-player or Villa official is not what is wanted.

So, I was thinking about who has sufficient 'weight' to carry Villa news forward to the fans and the press alike. The name that jumps out to me is Mervyn King. I think it ticks both boxes for Villa fans as a Villa fan and a figure that has standing within the non-footballing circles.

However big we think we are as a club we still get excited by celebrity fans. It's quite quaint but it does genuinely impress us and we do get like the kid that caught the ice-cream van at the news that a celebrity of any status has nailed their colours to the Villa mast. So, whether it's a Father Ted tea lady or Tom Hanks we plume our feathers with pride.

With that in mind I think Mervyn King would be able to pass news to us and be accepted as the 'custodian' of club news and avuncular enough to have the fans listening.

A certain future King would be ideal but I'm sure wouldn't be allowed too.

Personally though, if we had an owner that was a proper custodian of the Club with decent PR skills then we wouldn't really have that much of a need.

This has been done before.

Not King who presided over the biggest Financial fuckup in 80 years.

Benjamin Zepphaniah or Professor Carl Chinn please

I'd go for Benjamin. Our press releases would probably win poem of the year every time.

I doubt Nigel Callaghan will be interested in the job. I think he is too busy DJing.

Good call. Every time there's bad news he could play The Funeral March on his  fiddle. :)

And will end up with RSI which ends his music career!

Are you going to tell the current President you are giving him the push?

Perhaps go round his house and take him in his own rose garden!

I really hope that 'taking him in his own rose garden' is a euphemism. :)

* Ascends hobby horse*

What we need is what the Tories call grandees, the men in grey suits who don't have power but wield influence. The sort who, when they talk you listen. Sir Graham, BFR, Dennis Mortimer.
