Keith Masefield

Who?

I came across the ticket for the game against Manchester United in the Second Division (oh frabtious day) in 1975 where Keith made his debut as a sub. He only played twice more (both as subs), but I was there!

Villa team (packed with defenders): Cumbes, Nicholl, Ross, Aitken, McDonald, Robson, Leonard, Little, Graydon (sub Masefield), Carrodus

Was that the game we won 2-0 with Charlie Aitken getting a headed goal down the Witton end?  If so I was there only that day sitting in the Witton Lane stand instead of behind the Witton End goal.

Manure won the league that year and we got promoted in second place and if it is that year, such was our form coming to the end of that season I am convinced that had there been a few more weeks left, we would have overhauled Utd and gone up as champions.  That was a cracking second division side we had then.

Emment Kapengwe and Freddie Muwela, I think they were Nigerian. The list is endless.

Indeed!  I  dont remember the goals 'cos my little 9-year-old frame was watching from the Holte end.  I do remember walking back to our car parked in Electric Avenue and seeing a knuckle-dragging Yanited fan run down the railway embankment by the bridge and stage-dive into a crowd of fans who promptly parted and allowed him to continue falling until he face-planted the pavement.  There was much merriment as I recall.

Simon "static" Stainrod. His svelte like figure was always an asset in a defensive wall.

To be fair, I remember Stainrod scoring 4 on his debut and he had quite a good first season.

Senderos

Senderos is one of those players I forget all about until he gets a rare mention and then forget all over again until he gets another mention.
