The lesser Manchester club are in decline they can no longer attract any player they want why sign for a club in decline when you play for a great club on the rise.

Unfortunately we all know that, inevitably, Jack and John will leave us at some point. May as well start getting used to that idea.

I prefer to look forward to the pair of them winning trophies galore with Aston Villa.

Good luck with that.

Selling your best players would probably be a bad start to trying to achieve success.

I'd be pretty confident of keeping them for next two years. We're still on the up after all.

Get to a point where they're playing top 6 style football and we're not and that's where the problems begin and they follow the path of Barry, Young and Milner who combined must've had good 15 season playing in CL.

If that does happen hopefully the foundation isn't built on sand as it was back in 2010. Leicester have shown selling Mahrez, Kante and Maguire in last 4 years since title win if you keep other key players and sign well you can build another formidable premier league team.

At this stage though we'd be knackered if Jack left. Our form and performances going rapidly downhill anytime he misses a few games injured shows this.

So, reports that Jack is set to resume training later this week? Do we believe it, or by the end of next week he's still only 50-50 to make the Newcastle game? Sorry, but I'm still sceptical after last season.

Totally agree.  How can he have been 50/50 for the last three games?  It was apparently just a dead calf when he came off against Citeh.  It's definitely got the whiff of last season to me - all secretive and vague.  Hope I'm wrong obvs!

At rugby last season I got an accidental stamp on my calf and I took it as just bruising and turned up to play the next game feeling pretty much ok. I put a bit of strapping on it and played for about 10-15 minutes before it became clear it wasn't right and I ended up at hospital for a scan where they found a muscle bleed which required 2-3 weeks rest or it was just going to reopen within minutes of playing. I suspect it's something similar with training for the liverpool game showing the problem wasn't going away and the wolves game coming too soon afterwards. The break has given us every chance of seeing him back for the next game I suspect.  I might be totally wrong but the impression I get of the injury is something similar.

If Jack has a rest during the run of games where Villa are unlikely to get much, comes back in a few weeks, Villa go on a run and finish third....that'll do me :)

Not letting the opposition know if your best player is or is not available seems pretty sensible to me.

Here comes the Aston Villa boss Dean Smith, who kicks off with an injury update.

"Jed Steer's got a partial tear of his Achilles so will be out for a while," he says.

"I'm guessing that will keep him out for three or four months. Jack [Grealish] has been training with us. He is fit and ready.

"Matt [Targett] came off just before half-time against Wolves with concussion but has trained. Bjorn Engels has been back in training and I expect him to be available for selection."

Nyland in goal or is Heaton available? What has happened to Kalinic?

Heaton has been training, will be training Saturday and Sunday, and expected to play on Monday
