Because there are performances and achievements worth celebrating in the context of a difficult season. It's not been unmitigated disaster.

Vlaar - More consistent than Delph and our only good centre-back this season.
Bacuna - Robinson and Donacien haven't done much for the first team yet.
Albrighton - Almost back to his initial form at the club, wonder if he'll get a new contract?

Using the whoscored stats the fairest answers are:

Delph
Benteke
Albrighton

Seems pretty fair to me, technically Benteke should win both but with him missing so much of the season I gave it to Delph.

As for the idea of cancelling awards, etc that's just a way to piss off the players who've played well, and there have been a few of them.
