True Villa great.

Have to say when I see thread titles like that for our famous old players, I always first worry they're no longer here before clicking the thread.

Off on a slight tangent here, and meaning no reference to PMcP whatsoever, but frequently whilst having my first dump of the day, I will glance at what is trending on twitter. if i see someone's name is there, trending, my first assumption is that they're dead.

The aul' fella's favourite player.

Inside forward, so was he more like a modern day winger or closer to a centre forward?   The footage I have seen (time and again) from 1957 would point to the latter, but those who've seen him in the flesh would be better placed to comment.

Happy birthday mr Mcparland
Never seen you play in the flesh or ever shook your hand
But if you pulled a claret and blue shirt on that in my eyes puts you on one hell of a pedestal

I saw the title of the thread, and my thoughts went immediately to my dad.

Happy birthday Mr McParland. You'd be worth £50m these days, but you're priceless to us.

Peter Morris called him our greatest winger since Athersmith and our best centre forward between Waring and Hitchens. Danny Blanchflower reckoned him the best inside forward in the world.

Happy birthday Mr MacParland and may you soon see your greatest claim to fame eradicated.

My late Dad came over from Ireland at similar time to Peter and they became friends (my Dad played for Distillery in Ireland). He always spoke highly of Peter McParland as a player, but even more so as a person, happy birthday and lets hope the team show a bit of your spirit tomorrow
