I suppose its occured to most of you that its quite possible we are not going to be taken over. A bit like Everton are not going to be taken over despite Bill Kenwright wanting to sell up.... allegedly.

We are in the position as fans of supporting a manager who has not impressed at all in his time here and a club owner who really does want out. But it appears from the outside Randy Lerner may have to stay unless he brings the asking price down considerably.

It may be a bleak future to look forward to at the moment but nothing stays the same for ever so lets hope something, anything,
happens in the not too distant future.

Would bringing the asking price down not attract the wrong kind of buyer though? As in, if he only wants to get the club on the cheap, has he really got the required funds to invest in the playing squad etc?

It's kind of like why some escorts charge higher than average rates, they only want to attract certain kinds of punter.  ;D

Let us hope we end up being whisked away by a rich arab on a private jet as opposed to ending up like Small Heath with Carson. The footballing equivalent of sitting in a window in Cheddar Road.

At what price could a fan-based takeover become viable ?

Say if the price was 100 million that's 50,000 of us rifling the sofa for 20 grand each. Hmmm not happening is it unless a collection of Howard Hodgsons got together and coughed up a couple of million each... Even if that funded half of it how many of us would be willing to invest or borrow 10 grand each to own the club - but it works for Barca...

My maths is shite . 50,000 times 10,000 is 500 million.

So would it be feasible for 50 million to come from richer investors and 100 million from 50,000 fans at 2 grand each ?

Given a season ticket is say 400 quid that's 5 years worth. What if in effect you could 'buy your seat ' for say 2 grand - would you do it ?

I'm curious to know how long it took for the deal between Doug and Randy to be completed. Like did Doug speak to Randy about selling Villa to him 6 months before the takeover was finalised?

I don't know a thing about what happens during these discussions but I see us being an Everton, a club for sale but without any takers...or the right ones.
We are Everton MK II but a poorer version. I think as a club they have to strive harder due to the shadow of Liverpool . We don't have that incentive .

No wonder you're such a miserable git if that's your view.

I don't think that I have ever in my life heard someone suggest that they'd want to be smaller, with less history and success just so that they can become jealous of their more successful neighbours.

Well put.
We are Everton when compared with current situation, but we are Liverpool when compared with the 2 teams in the 2 cities. Let's not confuse the two situations.

Well thank god for that..http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/aston-villa-takeover-could-month-7508514
But he's just a random stockbroker that the Mail rang up for a few words to help fill a blank page they had,
I think most of us could have said pretty much the same stuff.
Anyway I've been looking for the post that mentioned knowing someone high up at AON saying there will be an announcement on August 1st. Can't find it now, but only four days to go. On the strength of that I'm off to Corals later to have a fiver on our new owner(s) rocking up at the Bescot next Tuesday night.

Cut out the abuse please. You've missed the point. See Dante's post above who has grasped it fully .

That bloke quoted in the Mail also said earlier in the summer that our new owners could be one of the rumoured names or somebody we'd never heard of. That's not  narrowing it down much is it? A member of the human race then?

He's like a character from Viz.
