Randy Lerner is trying to sell Aston Villa for £200million – as manager Paul Lambert battles to save his job, writes Neil Moxley of the Sunday People.

The Villa owner is in talks with one of his pals Stateside who already owns an American sports’ franchise.

Rumours that the Birmingham club will change hands are true and senior officials are aware of the sell-off.

Sunday People Sport understands that the new prospective owner already owns a sports club – a Major League Baseball team. But it appears that no deal is imminent after initial talks between the two parties broke down.

Discussions have hit a snag and, at present, there is nothing concrete on the table.

The buyer’s identity remains a secret but it is understood to be a personal contact of Lerner’s, built up during the time when he owned the Cleveland Browns.

It casts further doubt over the future of manager Lambert, who may still be given the boot at the end of the season in the wake of an alleged bullying scandal that has rocked the Midlands club this week.

And whoever owns Villa next season, Lambert’s fate still hangs in the balance following a season that has failed to deliver on expectations.
