We'd still have to conform to the FFP rules wouldn't we? Which though a new owner would mean a more significant transfer budget, we wouldn't necessarily see big name players here.
I think if anything the best we'd hope for is spending the sort of levels we did under O Neill. Even under our current austerity we're struggling to get our wage/turnover ratio at an acceptable level.

That is of course if they ever decide to properly enforce those rules.

I don't think Financial Fair Play would matter until our second successive season in European competition (so, at least least our third season under a potential new owner even if we qualify for Europe at the first attempt).

So we could spend a fortune signing shitloads of players, then win the league and by the time FFP affected us we'd have attracted enough glory-hunters to buy our merchandise and help us conform to the rules.

Easy.

Douglas was selling how many times? A lot of hope based on Twitter in here.

This story is now in the Meaning Evil and Express & Star, With the E&S saying there are two interested groups one from Texas and the other Russian. Make of it what you will. Also just checked the E&S story again and it isn't attributed to anyone so definitely not from Matt Kendrick.

Are we allowed to start fantasising about signing Ronaldo?
At 37 and in retirement he's just the signing we are looking for!

Personally I think we've reached the "no smoke without fire" stage. It would be nice if Villa could put a couple of wins together, then we can find out for sure.

I am not sure why Randy selling up would fe a good thing, there are plenty of rubbish owners out there, Hull, Cardiff, Blues, Gillett & Hicks, Gold & Sullivan. Better the devil you know.

Just our luck the American consortium with two billionaires will be Gillette and Hicks.

That's what I thought.
Those two do have billions......of debt.

Just googled Larry Ellison. Holy crap. He's 32 times as wealthy as Lerner. That's stupidly rich.

Are we allowed to start fantasising about signing Ronaldo?
Yes and I think it's also a bit early to start the FFP (Fuck Faced Platini) thread!

It all seems rather unlikely, but objectively there's no reason why Villa shouldn't be bought by some crazily wealthy people and given a Man City-style makeover. In fact, I sometimes wonder why is hasn't already happened.

I get why it happened with Chelsea as everyone wanks over how amazing London supposedly is, but what was the attraction of City? Decidedly unglamorous, and not even the biggest club in their city.

Villa are by far the biggest club in England's second city, no contest. The history is prestigious, the infrastructure is good, the finances are essentially sound, the untapped potential is huge. And let's face it, we have a cool name. If I was a billionaire, I'd definitely buy us.

Well if it's in the Torygraph it must be true, so my money is on Franklin, Phineas and Fat Freddy aka The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers and we could get rid of Hercules on match days and have Fat Freddie's Cat as the club mascot. 8)

More chance of Phineas and Ferb turning up with John Lassiter in tow than some of the names mentioned here.

Russian investment?  Not likely in the current climate.

The rest of the names sound like someone's played pin the tail on the last Forbes 100 list.
