Competition is bad for business
« on: March 28, 2014, 11:22:22 AM »
I always knew the Premier League were putting all their efforts in to ensuring the status quo and thereby stifling competition but I never expected them to admit it!

It's this quote that's my favourite:

"But you have to balance that off against, generally, we're in the business of putting on a competition and competition means people can compete."

I winder if he said it through gritted teeth?

If ever the favoured clubs seriously mess up you can guarantee rules will be changed to keep the leagues revenue streams secure. They have no interest in true financial fair play either.

"There are lots of fans around the world who wish Manchester United were winning it again," Scudamore told Bloomberg.

There's even more who are happy they aren't.

This is also covered in the Pain of Man U fans thread. As I posted there, it shows the premier League are keen on a successful Man Utd and therefore calls into question their impartiality.

Generally? Shouldn't that be solely? I am genuinely shocked by this statement. I know it shouldn't be a surprise he's in the pocket of the big clubs but to actually admit it. Disgraceful.

I've just finished reading a book about the history of the NFL. I know it's not a like for like comparison but the commisioners of that league saw it as their primary duty to make the league competitive, and therefore interesting and profitable. They may have had favourites and soft spots but the league was above every other consideration and that's the way it should be.

It does and he should be hauled over the coals for it. He won't be though. Or he'll give some smarmy bullshit response if he is. "Look at the latest TV deal" is his answer to everything I imagine.

So after telling us for years it is such a successful product and the best league in the world he now tells us that if one particular cog out of twenty under performs the whole thing is in danger of sliding.

He's talking through his arse as well.  An unsuccessful Man Utd means those glory hunters who have decided to follow them will just follow the current biggest/highest/wankiest/ club.

Cancel the World Cup. Manchester United aren't very good anymore and consequently the entire planet has decided football isn't worth watching.

Man Utd are just a half arsed club that used to be famous.

If he ever visits VP he should be made to kneel at the foot of McGregor's statue and apologise for being an arsehole.
