Questions From Newcastle Fans
« on: February 18, 2014, 08:42:05 PM »
Hi, I'm from toonforum.co.uk and we like to ask opposition fans questions to use in our pre match build up. The questions are:

1 – How do you think you’ll line up?
2 – How has Aston Villa's season gone so far? Happy?
3 – Who has been the biggest surprise this season for Aston Villa? Who has disappointed?
4 – What are your views on Paul Lambert at the moment?
5 – Which players do you see being key for both sides?
6 – Where do you think Aston Villa will finish now?
7 – Where do you think Newcastle will finish now?
8 – Who will finish in the top six? Who will go down?
9 – Scoreline prediction?
10 – If your football club was a vegetable, what vegetable would it be?

Thanks in advance!

1 – How do you think you’ll line up? 4-3-3 / 4-5-1.  Guzan, Bacuna, Vlaar, Baker, Bertrand, Delph, Westwood, KEA, Weimann, Gabby, Benteke.
2 – How has Aston Villa's season gone so far? Happy? Inconsistent but signs of improvement over last year. Mildly happy.
3 – Who has been the biggest surprise this season for Aston Villa? Who has disappointed? Surprise - Delph's great form. Benteke has disappointed overall.
4 – What are your views on Paul Lambert at the moment? Want him to stay as we need stability but if he was sacked tomorrow, I wouldn't shed a tear.
5 – Which players do you see being key for both sides? Gabby for us and Ben Arfa for you.
6 – Where do you think Aston Villa will finish now? 13th
7 – Where do you think Newcastle will finish now? 9th
8 – Who will finish in the top six? Who will go down? Man C, Chelsea, Arse, Liverpool, Spurs, Man U. Going down - Fulham, Cardiff and Palace
9 – Scoreline prediction? 1-1.
10 – If your football club was a vegetable, what vegetable would it be? A Potato. Bland, not very easy on the eye but I can't do without them in my life!

1 – How do you think you’ll line up?
4-2-4. Guzan, Bacuna, Vlaar, Clark, Bertrand, Delph, Westwood, Gabby, Weimann, Albrighton, Benteke. Lambert may have you believe it's a 4-2-3-1 formation, but it'll play out like a 4-2-4 probably and a largely bypassed midfield.

2 – How has Aston Villa's season gone so far? Happy?
Performances and football have been disappointing. Inititally results were decent but 2 wins in 12 league games since beating Southampton (which we would have hoped could kick us on to a comfortable run of form) is worrying. That we've not veered away from the 10th-12th positions in that time is fortunate, but also testament to how pour the bottom half of the league is.

3 – Who has been the biggest surprise this season for Aston Villa? Who has disappointed?
Biggest surprise might be Bacuna. He's not a bad player. 4 goals and pretty dynamic. He's also played largely in an unfavoured position at right back. Biggest disappointments have been Lowton and Westwood who haven't kicked on from decent first seasons and have actually been very poor on the whole. Likewise a few of our new signings have been woeful, such as Tonev and Tony Moon, but if you pay peanuts you'll be lucky to get quality. For every Bacuna there's 2-3 players who are a bit bobbins.

4 – What are your views on Paul Lambert at the moment?
Struggles tactically. No problem in motivation. The home form, low budget side or not, is inexcusable. Must improve or he won't last here.

5 – Which players do you see being key for both sides?
Benteke and Agbonlahor for us. For you guys, I'm not up on who's injured or not, but you could do with Ben Arfa having the same sort of impact he did in the reverse fixture. He murdered us.

6 – Where do you think Aston Villa will finish now?
12-15th

7 – Where do you think Newcastle will finish now?
9th.

8 – Who will finish in the top six? Who will go down?
I'd love for Man Utd to finish outside of the top 6 but I just reckon the attacking quality will be enough to overthrow Everton. Cardiff, Fulham and either Norwich or West Brom will go down. I think Poyet will get Sunderland out of trouble...sorry.

9 – Scoreline prediction?
Score draw. Two teams in dire form but I don't see either having the quality to win convincingly.

10 – If your football club was a vegetable, what vegetable would it be?
Given we've had Graham Taylor as manager twice, it surely has to be a turnip.

Sorry, I don't understand that. Can you explain it for me?

Did you not read any of the red tops around 1994? ;)

I couldn't think of any other vegetable connections to be honest besides a turnip.

I'm now actually beginning to wonder why that question was even asked...

I know full well what it means. What I don't know is why a Villa supporter would think it's funny, or clever, to mention it.

I'm not sure it's a question requiring a serious response. I wasn't trying to be clever or particularly funny. It was just the first  veg that came into my head and I thought I'd answer question 10 having answered the previous 9.
Am I allowed to still pick a turnip on the basis our last two managers have been from Scotland? They love their Neeps and Tatties.

Even if I did, I certainly wouldn't be regurgitating any of their shit twenty years later. Particularly if it were just to be obnoxious about one of the more dignified character in my own club's history.

1 – How do you think you’ll line up?

4-3-3 (Guzan, Bacuna, Clark, Vlaar, Bertrand, Westwood, El Ahmadi, Delph, Albrighton, Benteke, Agbonlahor.)

Quote
2 – How has Aston Villa's season gone so far? Happy?

In terms of position we are not far off where I anticipated. In terms of performances we have disappointed, though.

Quote
3 – Who has been the biggest surprise this season for Aston Villa? Who has disappointed?

Fabian Delph has been good in midfield and really stepped up to be a better player. Ron Vlaar has also improved significantly compared to last season and he is absolutely essential to our team.

A few of the players who were so good last season have been a bit flat this. Weimann, Westwood, Lowton and Benteke being prime examples. Perversely though, we're doing better on paper than we were last season with those guys doing well.

Quote
4 – What are your views on Paul Lambert at the moment?

Mixed. I think he deserves more time but there are question marks over his tactics and coaching at the moment. He seemed to get it right towards the end of last season and even the start of this, but since then we've regressed.

Quote
5 – Which players do you see being key for both sides?

For us I can see Albrighton being important if he plays. He was excellent in the last game against Cardiff. I also see Benteke playing an important role, he's not scored in a while and is due one. As ever Vlaar will be important at the back and Delph in midfield.

For you, Ben Arfa always seems to play well against us even if he seems a bit hit and miss over the course of the piece. I think Remy is back from suspension and he'll be a threat to us, being your top scorer.

Quote
6 – Where do you think Aston Villa will finish now?

12th.

Quote
7 – Where do you think Newcastle will finish now?

9th.

Quote
8 – Who will finish in the top six? Who will go down?

Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd, Everton for the top six

West Brom, Cardiff and Fulham to go down.

Quote
9 – Scoreline prediction?

2-1 to you. Your bad run has to end somewhere and from rumours your manager is under big pressure so I think you'll be up for this one.

Quote
10 – If your football club was a vegetable, what vegetable would it be?

Brussels sprout.

I wasn't trying to be obnoxious about Sir Graham at all and the guy's one of my favourite managers since being a fan. It was literally the only veg connection I could think of to do with the club and I'm beginning to wonder why the fuck I even bothered trying to think of a veg connection at all...
And what has veg got to do with football...

I'm leaving it here.

Apologies for any offence caused gents (and SGT).

I'm just disappointed the old word filter on the T-word isn't there any more.

I was gonna say Swede but didn't want to offend Olof Mellberg, but that's because he's proper hard.
