Ex Aston Villa FC
« on: February 03, 2014, 12:00:24 AM »
I was rather bored this evening and came up with the following team of ex Villa players currently active in the Premier League

  1. Friedel
  2. Walker
  3. Ridgewell
  4. Cahill
  5. Cuellar
  6. Barry
  7. Milner
  8. Crouch
  9. Bent
10. Downing
11. Young

12. Sorenson
13. Ireland
14. Bannan
15. Gardner
16. Routledge
17. Collins
18. Cole

I know this is rather pointless, but I actually think it would be a decent team. By the way I know that Bent is technically still our player...

How many of the current Villa team would you take over that starting XI?

Brad Jr over Brad Sr
Vlaar over Cuellar
Bertrand over Ridgewell
Benteke over Crouch
Gabby over Bent

I would fancy us down their left hand side against the power of Downing and the class of Ridgwell.

Whittingham and Sidwell on the bench before Ireland and Bannan.

Pushing it a bit to include loan players I'd have thought.

I forgot about those two, I would have to agree

I forgot about Knight at Hull City too, and he would be useful on the Bench as well

I know, but Bent isn't going to play for us again is he?

Agreed.

I think eight of my Ex-Villa XI are recent England internationals I think

Kevin Poole was in the paper today, still playing at 50 for Burton Albion.

Curtis Davies could do a job here too.

Even the MOTD experts said Barry was subbed on Saturday for giving the ball away too often - would fit back in with us well.

Barry would slip into our ball oosing midfield perfectly as you say.

Davies too, could well make the cut.

All this does rather serve to show what we have lost in recent times, but I suspect we all knew that!

However as somebody else alluded too there some great players left here too

Guzan
Bertrand (early days and only on loan, but looks the real deal)
Vlaar (at his best)
Delph
Weimann
Benteke
Agbonlahor

But we remain several sandwiches short of a picnic...

A decent team, yes. Easily good enough to secure a mid table spot. What about the wages?

I was thinking more of Walker and Cole.

More impressive than that i feel is the fact of how many of our youth team set up have gone on to become established, regular Premiership players

At Villa still and first team squad

Gabby
A.Weinmann
K.Clark
N.Baker
M.Albrighton

At Villa in and out of squad

G.Gardener
C.Herd

Other clubs and regulars

G.Barry - (he was a kid when he came to us so always treated him as a youth player)
S.Davis
G.Cahill
L.Moore (not sure if still at Swansea)
P.Whittingham
B.Bannan
L.Ridgewell

Half decent squad there - although one would have to play rush goalie  ;D
