"Good to see that Villa aligned pundits are growing in number."

Needs to be. Theres way too many Liverpool on there at the moment.

I was talking to someone about this the other day and he pointed out that villa are very well represented in punditry across the channels

Collymore
Southgate
Townsend
Saunders
Yorke
Keown
Merson
McInally

Collymore - defo Villa nowadays. Not sure what he feels for his other clubs. Probably has a big soft spot for Sarfend.
Southgate - yep but more of an England man as opposed to Villa
Townsend - yep but not overtly pro Villa. Never exposed to us really. Gets dragged into ITVs jingoistic nonsense for england and Champs League.
Saunders - defo Villa and probably Derby if they were in Top League
Yorke - utter shite pundit. Also still more a ManU fan.
Keown - Arsenal through and through
Merson - mad Villa and Arsenal fan. fine player I even went to see him play for the Saddlers
McInally - another proper Villa man.

I heard big John on Talk shite last week and he said that once he had left the Villa is enthusiasm for the game had left him.

He only spoke positively about the club and the fans.
It looked to me like he lost his enthusiasm for the game before he left the villa.

Not a particularly unique opinion, but on his day he was unplayable, he was just a little too inconsistent.

Good at VP. Not so good away from home

Dion Dublin strikes me as someone who would rather be known as a Manchester Utd player, and his views on us seem to be a bit ill informed.

Excuse the sacrilege but when Paul McGrath retired we seemed very much third in his list of priorities for a few years.

And yet I heard him on Talkshite a few months back and it was all 'we' when referring to the Villa.

He looked pretty cock a hoop the time Lowton belted that one in against Stur-ke. Sitting next to Crooks who looked somewaht concerned.

As I said - for a few years.

Totally disagree.

I saw him doing punditry once on a Villa match and after the game they asked Dublin something, he replied, and whoever the studio douchebag was said "But you're biased, they're your team", to which he replied "Of course I am biased, I've got 5 and a half years of bias in me".

Good at VP. Not so good away from home

Two things he did know. Three, in fact.

1. How to celebrate a goal.
2. A photo opportunity when he saw one.
3. How to celebrate a goal against Small Heath with the Holte End.

He had his faults, but Christ, thinking back to it, it makes the current time seem even more boring.

Mind you, to be fair, Libor Kozak quite clearly learned how to do proper goal celebrations whilst in Italy, too.

One of my favourite Villa pictures of all time.

When I think of Carew I always remember a home game against Stoke.  My memory is probably a little bit biased but as I recall it they committed foul after foul to stop us breaking and the ref never gave more than a free kick.  Carew came on as a sub and the defender tried to hold him by grabbing his shirt.  He was left holding the shirt as Carew galloped straight through it and continued towards goal before being tackled.  The ref didn't even give a free kick.

He's on Soccer AM now. He said Villa is his club.
