Come back to Redditch United Lee!  He (almost) singlehandedly saved us from relegation in 11/12 (3 goals in 6 games, loads of assists).

Either he just looooves playing football or the money troubles haven't got any better.

He has probably had bigger crowds than that at a creditors meeting.

It's probably the former. Even at his most infuriating he clearly loved playing.

On today's evidence he could still do a job for us in central midfield.

If Hendrie invents an age reversal machine and gets himself 22 again, he's welcome back. He might not be a Villa legend by any stretch but he's a class above the midfielders we have at the moment.

Agreed. And that's why I personally can't dislike his off field persona.

He played in the Lions Club Chairman's game last year, and as Tony Daley dropped out due to commitments at Wolves, he played one half for both sides. Although his opposition that day was not spectacular, you could still see he had the skills and vision that most of us could only dream of having. The same was true for Tayls when he played on the Villa fans team against the Chicago Fire fans in July 2012. I would imagine if he wanted to, he could still cut it in the lower leagues as well.

If I turned up at Villa Park for a stadium tour with a Villa legend and it was him, I'd want my money back.

It's a shame how Hendries post Villa career turned out. Granted largely his own doing, but he's drifted from club to club playing a dozen or so here and there for each team before moving on. He left us at 29-30, at a time he should probably have been peaking, but the decline has been startling. Another player who if he had the aptitude would have played plenty of times for England and been held in high regard for us. Could pick a pass, good vision, skill, and could tuck away a chance when he got it. Ability to score special goals too.

He's 36. There's players older than him still playing in the top flight. Loads playing in the Champ-L2. It's a shame he's been playing Non-League for the last three years. Waste of his ability, and he's never relied on pace either.

Clown who enjoyed the other side of being a footballer too much. Wasted his natural talent and can't drive a golf buggy.

How exactly did he waste his natural talent? He played over 250 games in the top flight and was capped by his country. If he'd have played 400 games, scoring 100 goals and capped 50 times for England it still wouldn't have been enough for some people.
