Quote
Police are hunting two Aston Villa fans who brutally assaulted a fellow claret and blue supporter – who then fell onto potentially deadly railway tracks.

The victim, 48, remains in hospital 12 days after being set upon on the platform at Aston railway station.

Thugs struck at around 8.30pm on Saturday, September 14, hours after Villa had lost at home to Newcastle.

The victim, from Walsall, suffered injuries to his ribs, head and face and remains in hospital but his condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

Detective Constable Simon Taylor, of British Transport Police, said: “The victim, who was on the Walsall-bound platform at Aston station, became involved in some banter with two men on the Birmingham-bound platform.

“It’s believed that all three men were Aston Villa fans who were returning home after the club’s home fixture earlier in the day.

“For reasons unknown at this time, the banter escalated which resulted in the two men launching a violent assault on the victim, kicking him in the head and raining a number of blows to his body, causing him to fall from the platform onto the railway tracks.

“This was a particularly nasty and violent attack which caused the victim to be hospitalised. It’s only a matter of luck that a train wasn’t coming into the station before he was helped from the tracks.”

DC Taylor added: “Inquiries are ongoing to trace those responsible, including viewing CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses.

“If you know the men in these photographs, or their current whereabouts, please call British Transport Police straight away.

“Similarly, if you witnessed the assault, and have not yet spoken to the police, I would urge you to contact BTP immediately as your information could be vital to this investigation.”

Probably better to judge after we know full details. Horrible thing to do. But something may have pushed them over the edge..

Silly question possibly, but how do they know they are Villa fans? Regardless, hope they find the fuckers.

Maybe due to the 'banter' they had before the attack?

That is the train I use for VP, and it must be said that there is no shortage of right naughty geezers from points south west of our metropolis. I blame Kevin Turvey, myself.
