Get the little things right (again).
« on: September 23, 2013, 10:06:41 PM »
This afternoon I was at the launch of the Thank God for Football DVD by Peter Lupson, who organised the McGregor service in 2011. It's about the clubs who were founded by religious groups/men and there are 11 different films about 12 clubs (Liverpool and Everton are covered together).

Peter spoke about the help he received while making the film, and I don't have to say which club he said were the most helpful.

Is there a book to go with the DVD?

It's based on a book which came out a couple of years ago.

£9.03 including postage from Amazon Marketplace. I've just bought an illustrated copy.
Thanks, Dave.

The book, that is!

It's fascinating throughout, and in one part magnificent.

They do tend to get many things right which makes me very proud. Whilst we're dishing out praise I'd like to lavish plenty on Rob Bishop, any dealings I've had with him he's been wonderfully helpful and a true gentleman. A credit to Villa.

Looking forward to receiving my copy of the DVD!

Always good to recycle a thread after 5 years.

So I finally (resisting out of jealously mostly) relented and watched the first episode of Pep looking like the genius he is in the Man City doc on Amazon Prime.

Much questionable ethics of having Amazon, but I thought I'd stick Villa in the search engine.

Free to Amazon prime subscribers, it's turned up this "Thank God For Football" documentary spread across 8 episodes. The first 'episode' (chunk of the DVD safe to say) 17mins, is Villa & the founding of the football league.

Don't worry if you are allergic to religion it won't be a challenge. As a Buddhist Chaplain in mental health I'm not sure if occured to me that Villa might have a Chaplain and that could be a job!

Knowing there have been unreliable accounts of history I was going to start a thread to see what those more versed in the facts (as far as they are known) thought, but glad to see you've given it a seal of approval Dave.
