NextGen Series - 100% Villa
« on: September 18, 2013, 12:13:56 PM »
Rather depressing this:
http://tinyurl.com/plsotwp
It's been abandoned in favour of a mini-champions league with the same teams. No place for us to defend our title. Can we keep the trophy?
We should all write to UEFA and complain.

That is absolutely outrageous. The youth European football competition should be for the best youth teams, not the youth teams of the best teams. UEFA really are a bunch of morons.

We obviously fucked up the plans and won it as opposed to allowing Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea etc to win it. UEFA clearly don't want upstarts like some has been team in Birmingham crshing the party. Is Holloway on their committee?

I'm going to stage a one-man protest against this, and not watch any Champions League Football this season.

This was inevitable as soon as the rumours started up that UEFA wanted in on the act.  Hardly surprising coming from the outfit that allows Champions League failures a back door entry into the Europa League.

The worst thing for the competition was Villa winning it. We should've let Chelsea win, ringer and all.

Any Corinthian like spirit has long since vanished as the insatiable pursuit of money tramples all in it's path wearing a replica shirt.

Will Villa make an official statement or kick up a fuss about this?  I hope so.

This is just a shockingly poor decision which, potentially, could mean the clubs that consistently finish in the top four will simply hoover up all the young talent.  It's obvious that the people who run the game do not care a jot about fair play and a level playing field.

So, in essence, they used us as guinea pigs for the feasibility of the idea before having to trouble the clubs that really matter to them.

UEFA are a bunch of morons, anybody with the slightest intelligence should see that a youth 'champions league' should feature teams with the best academies.

To play devil's advocate it's worth pointing out that NextGen was invite only so we only participated as we were lucky enough to get picked by whoever organises it. Now I accept that it seems unfair that we don't have the chance to defend our title and the qualifying criteria picked by UEFA seems unimaginative at best and elitist at worst but is it really any less fair than how we were selected for NextGen?

I remember reading something somewhere (probably on here) about the guy who came up with the idea for NextGen and how he'd basically been stitched up by UEFA who'd let him get it started then just nicked his idea and ran with it.

FIFA/UEFA/the FA - they're all a bunch of corrupt arseholes.

Yes significantly.  Whilst it was invite only they invited the clubs who had been successful at youth level domestically in recent years.  The new system is just a chance to help the top clubs that earn Uefa money to ensure they can continue to do so going forward.

I actually think it should be the FA that makes the complaint (having canvased opinion of all the clubs).  It's certainly not in the FA's interest to conceed even more power to the Chaump League monopoly so they should have an interest.  Coming from Villa it would just sound like sour grapes and be ignored by the media.

This won't be good news for young players as they will choose to join those club in UEFA Champions league for youth football and Aston Villa will suffers.

What a complete and utter joke.  I really do wonder about modern football and the clowns who run it.
