Football started in 1992
« on: September 10, 2013, 05:23:55 AM »
http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/news/features/on-this-day-10-september.html

"Villa finished runners-up to Manchester United after running out of steam during the end-of-season run-in, which was as close as they have ever come to winning football's highest domestic honour."

Admittedly it doesn't take much but my piss is boiling.

It's ok, as Barcelona and Milan haven't won it yet either.  Those giants of the game, Chelsea and Blackburn, have though.

What a cock-eyed load of shite that is.

But then so what? If there are people out there who will read that comment and not go "what the fuck are they on about?" then the chances are, they're bandwaggon jumpers and I would rather be a Bluenose than mix with their ilk.

We have won English football's highest domestic honour and the biggest honour in world club football (admittedly a few South Americans might disagree with me there). Just because they changed the name of both doesn't alter those facts. We were also champions of Europe when you firstly had to be champions of England to qualify and secondly every other team you played were league champions. And while I'm on a rant roll I will say I think the Premier League trophy looks cheap and tacky compared to the old league championship trophy. After seeing Dennis Mortimer holding it up it never seems right to see it being waved around by the winners of the second division.

Really? They use the old First Division trophy for today's second-level winners?

Yes. I was so, so pleased and relieved that when Small Heath were promoted a few years ago they were pipped to the title on the last day. The idea of them with that trophy for finishing 21st in the country was unpalatable to say the least.

We also won them at a time when money didn't totally dominant the sport in the way it does today.
