Stevens, Given and Nzog all named and Hutton left out, interesting.

Andras Stieber named, even more interesting.

Before anyone asks, Okore and Steer don't need to be named, they count as youth players of which we can have an unlimited amount.

Bit confused.  The Yes/No next to the name is whether the player is home grown?  So how come "N'Zogbia, Charles (Yes)"?

I think home grown means they started out as a 'youth' in English football. Of which Charles did at Newcastle.

Because he joined Newcastle before he turned 18 (or is it 19).

See Chris Herd and Andi Weimann as well.

EDIT

- Home-grown players do not have to be English; home-grown players are defined as those who "irrespective of nationality or age, have been affiliated to the FA or Welsh FA for a period of three seasons or 36 months prior to 21st birthday"

From the BBC page explaining the rules.

I don't get how a lot of the top flight clubs are going to comfortably come under the 17 overseas player limit. But of course in the case of certain clubs, they'll get away with it.

Do they need to come 'comfortably under' it? Exactly 17 players that weren't developed as youth players in England or Wales would be fine. I expect every team will manage that.

That Stieber inclusion is pretty baffling considering he's apparently been a fringe youth cup player & hes in ahead of the likes of Gardner, Domacien and Grealish

and if being over 21 is the reason he's ahead of the under 21 fringe first team squaders, then surely we'd have seen him in pre season at some point

None of those three need to be named. I don't think Stieber will be playing ahead of any of them.

I'm guessing it's just that there was nobody else apart from Hutton, so he may as well have be in ahead of an empty space.

Hutton might start thinking he's not wanted any more.

I hadn't realised he's nearly 22 but as you say it was probably just that we had someone just old enough to need to be named and a spare place.

If rest of Bomb squad is gone, it might make Alan Hutton be less nuisance and he could be used as cover for Lowton if we needed to use him. Are we cutting the nose off to spite the face. If we can make him calmer and be more disciplined in tackling. How long his contract is up ?

Maybe the club hope a lower league or overseas club will take Hutton on loan. Must admit, i'd have given him a number just in case we ever needed him. With our luck with injuries over the last few years it's not beyond the realms of possibility. We're paying his wages whether he is in the 25 or not, so may as well cover ourselves.

Of course he may be a massive twunt at training and a bad influence so Lambert wants him away form the squad, but for all his on field faults Hutton has never struck me as a trouble maker.

2 more years, I think we'll be trying to get him out on loan to the championship, Bacuna is the first backup at right back and Okore can play there if needed.

So can Herd. We're fine there.
