Villa books
« on: August 31, 2013, 04:22:09 PM »
Just got back from town and The Works has re-opened after the fire. They currently have a few Villa related books in stock, I bought,  From Mine to Milan Gerry Hitchens £4.99, Jackie Sewell biography £5.99 and Villa For England 1882-2011 £5.99. They also had The Real Bobby Dazzler The Bobby Thomson story for £5.99.

Thought some of you may be interested in picking some of them up.

And for the geeks they have a load of Doctor Who CDs.

Im certainly interested in the first two. Bobby Thomson was amongst the worst forwards I have ever seen at Villa Park. Absolutely terrible.

I might pick up a few of those next month.
My little girl was delighted with the Horrid Henry books I got in there for her on my last trip over.

I second the full sentence.  Bobby Thompson, terrible player, ended up where he deserved to.  Not a nice man either if my experience of him is anything to go by.  The book price is probably about what he was worth in transfer fees.

I have been meaning to pick up the Gerry Hitchens book, thanks for the tip price-wise.

Has anyone read the Friendlies, Tours and Testimonials book, is that worth getting? There was an extract of it in the Mail which looked good.

I think so, but then I can be an anorak for Villa books.

Read a chunk one about our England internationals last night. Worth buying if you are a bit of a Villa anorak.

Gerry Hitchens was my uncle. I watched the 66 world cup in his house with all his gear on. As for the mine, it  closed when I were a lad, but we used to play and drink at the miners club

And for the geeks they have a load of Doctor Who CDs.

I just finished Steve Stride's "Stride Inside The Villa". I picked it up from E-Bay or Amazon, can't remember, for 1p & postage.
