He was a football fan before it became popular to be one so I doubt it is band-wagon jumping.

Exactly. The first time he entered my consciousness was when he picked up some award - a Brit? - in 1986 and said that the only thing that would make him happier was the Villa winning the Milk Cup. Anyone who was flaunting their love of football in the mid-80s was not doing it to be cool and, if anything, were setting themselves up as a social pariah.

That was the first time I knew about him too. Me and my mate were discussing it at school the next day. As fifteen year olds I remember us latching onto the fact he called it the league cup as opposed to the milk cup. I think there was a documentary on him not long after where the Villa were mentioned. I also seem to remember a fit blonde punk girlfriend accompanying him to some games.

I saw him at an away game once, can't remember where it was but he'd got more tickets than he needed so he was trying desperately to give the tickets away. After a while some fella near me tried desperately to give him money for them but Nige was insistent he wanted nothing! Top bloke!

I got free tickets to some away games from him during the 90s including a trip to Old Trafford. Absolute gent and a genuine Villa fan.

I got a ticket for the last standing game on the Holte End from him for a mate...I paid face value though, he's a tight git sometimes :D

I remember him at a midweek reserves game too. Everyone sang "Nigel give us a song"...and he stood up and replied "who are ya?"

Seems to be a happy, nutty, talented bloke with a dodgy accent who loves the Villa (Ha! My predictive text tried to make me say viola!)

I was trying to work out what the Villa shirt mentioned in the article was. After careful consideration, I don't think it is one. It looks like the Aston Martin logo, if anything.

Anyone else remember him being on Star Test where he had draped a Villa scarf over the back of the chair? I used to enjoy Star Test.

She was with Kennedy at one of the supporters' payer of the year bashes about 20 years ago. She dyed her hair claret and blue for the occasion.

I'm the only Villa fan ever both not to have met Nigel Kennedy nor to have ever seen him at a match!

I did however stand behind Spizz when going into Craven Cottage last season, so that sort of makes up for it.

Nige, if you are reading this, I would like to know the significance of the Kerry jersey.

No idea what Nigel's connection is to Kerry, but he was possibly wearing their jersey because of their gaelic football semi-final against Dublin yesterday. Which they narrowly lost.

Fine and a slap on the wrist. Just means Glenda would have won by 41 votes instead of 42.
