The best bit about Les Ross's calls were when he returned to WM and started doing than again after about twenty years, during which time the internet was invented and the price of international dialling was slashed.

No idea who he was, but I used to like the Caledonian Comment caller.

He did a live commentary last season on a game at the same time R5 were live.

Whilst flicking from station to station - Tom is very very poor.

Yeah, I don't know how he landed that gig really.  Growing up, it always used to be a commentator (I remember Ian Crocker - the guy who is on SKY now) with Tom doing the hosting and summarising job.  Don't know if the commentary was something he wanted to do or was asked to do, but without wanting to sound unkind, he's not great in that role.

Slashed budgets... BRMB/Free can't afford a commentator so Tom Ross if forced to do it. To be fair he must put in the hours over the week...

That's fair enough then.

I'm so intolerant and have anger issues that i can't listen to any football phone in shows. Atleast i don't have to hear you lot. I record Soccer Saturday (12-3, i catch up in time for party time) just so i can fast forward Phil Thompson. Sad indictment of my intolerant character i know but i can't listen to the shite that comes out of the nose with a body.

Talking of Les Ross. Some of the best in depth interviewing. Ever.

We had Mark Reego Regan yesterday. Post-match he talked about Tuesday night as much as beating Hull, confidently predicted we wouldn't finish top half and let someone opine at length about how Lambert was dreadful for taking off Gabby.

Christ. How old is that interview? That is quite shameful.

I do have a bit of sympathy with less on that one. He's from the seventies school of wacky, zany presenters and Hardeep has the image of being a bit of an eejit so Les was bound to do it light-heartedly. He should have had the ability by now to turn it round once he saw which way it was going but it wasn't really his fault when Hardeep decided he wanted to be taken seriously.

But that's the problem. Anyone who has to ask questions for living should be able to get a feel for the tone of an interview and interviewee. if the other bloke isn't up for it you'll feel it in the first question or two. If not by body language then by the tone of his voice and how he responds to the questions. and not doing research never sits well.

That Hardeep bloke is a prat. Fair play to Ross for not giving two hoots about him.

Les Ross was never one for interviews anyway. Talking to Millie on Ring and Sing was more his thing (older members of our community will understand this).

I was out and about for the first part of yesterdays game, Rob Gurney was on WM, sounding like a Coventry fan would at Villa Park.

Free 80's was bizarre, they obviously don't have the rights for full coverage so did updates in between Bon Jovi, Mr Mister and Owen Paul. It sounded very odd.
