Sometimes, we get things very right
« on: July 05, 2013, 10:18:38 PM »
Was just reading this, about the whole VMF project, using local kids and locally sourced food etc etc.

This is about the allotment scheme:

http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10265~3228937,00.html

We even use water harvested from the Holte End roof to water the allotments.

Then I saw that Villa Midland Food is rated the number 1 restaurant in the city on Trip Advisor. That's a pretty amazing achievement (even when you factor in the likelihood of partisan football fans voting it up, which I am sure happens) in a city which has a few Michelin starred restaurants and a decent reputation for food.

For all we have moaned about the things we think the club have got wrong over the last few years, this is pretty brilliant, groundbreaking stuff.

Well done, Villa.

It's a very, very good restaurant, and not expensive either.

I'm very impressed with what I've heard about it and keep meaning to go there.

Not sure Tripadvisor is that reliable. According to them the best hotel in Birmingham is the Premier Inn in Great Barr!

It isn't, but in this case it's spot on. Very decent and extremely good value fusion food with a view over the hallowed turf.
And if you read the link in the original post you'll see what they are trying to do, and succeeding.

Second best restaurant in Brum for me, after that Polish one down the back of Moor Street that served the most amazing pastie starter things followed by some astonishing meat stew that left me unable to shit for a week and then plied me with copious amounts of vodka so that I nearly went blind.

Is that the one with sheepskin throws on all the chairs and straw on the ceiling? Is so, I agree. The wife had a pork knuckle the size of a baby there and was great.

Fair play to you Paulie for taking the time to salute the club and the people who make this great scheme work.

Thanks for this, I never realised the club were doing so much.  I'll be sure to book in for a meal next time I'm up in brum.
