That's pretty cringeworthy. I really liked 'Oh to be a Villain' from last season though.

Yes i did as well. It was'nt your typical football song although it was'nt orignally written as one which probably helped.

As with anything the club does it is there to be shot at by some. They will never make everyone happy.

Or, in this case, anyone.

With exercises such as this I think the club should just quietly slip the song into the match day playlist and see how it goes.  Previews like this catch people cold and invariably induce a negative response.  A case in point, The Gary Nock "To Be A Villan" tune has been a slow burner for me but I'm beginning to really like it and associate it with the club now - such things take time and bedding in.  The Spizzenergi tune needs to be cranked up more often, too.

Why don't they just play 'Theme from an unmade silent movie' before the kick off and be done with it.

Now that really is a rubbish piece of music! I know it's historic and all that, but I've experienced more inspiring episodes of Deal or No Deal. Villa is associated with one brilliant song: Ghost Riders/Holte Enders in the Sky, they should stick a surf guitar instrumental version of that on before the games.

I'm with Clampy regarding Silent Movie.

As far as this latest effort is concerned, I thought it was embarrassingly banal.

The solution to all this is really simple.

- forget recording a new song, it will invariably sound shite, no matter how good the intentions, it just will, so don't waste your time
- forget resurrecting something from the past, it will mean lots to some people, and nothing to others (see discussion above)
- forget forcing this sort of thing on people by calling it official, it'll never work
- not only will it not work, it will, for most people, just be a bit embarrassing.

I've just listened to this new song in full. I don't think I can add anything to what has been said already. Bad beyond words. It's the worst piece of music I've heard since that cack awful version of the Bells are Ringing. In fact listening to this thing has given me Vietnam-vet style flashbacks of the time I listened to that.

I'd like chants to be spontaenous and natural.

Particularly don't like the 'Olte end bit. The stadium edit bit in the link is also a worry. Stick with the Gary Nock thing from last season that worked really well.

Leave the songs to the lads and lasses who pay hard earned cash to follow the team. Just an idea.
