Just booked the hotel for a 2 night stay, driving from st  Louis (4hr drive) and there's many more travelling greater distances. Simon Leach deserves great praise for what he's doing with the Chicago Villans and it's worth keeping track on us ex pats flying the Villa flag over here. We're meeting up in a pub (0630am) ran by an Arsenal fan and is the HQ for the Chicago Arsenal supporters club. Many neutrals over here pick up on clubs that are the most often mentioned and Simon is making great efforts to put out our name in lights in a city that boasts a district called Villa Park.
It will be interesting to see how our numbers compare to the well established Arsenal supporters club and I hope that some of us stay sober enough to get pictures and you tube clips for viewing across the pond. We hope to do you proud and make as much noise, as our terrific away support always do

A word of warning to all those traveling there for the event: GET THERE EARLY.

Long time member of this parish and often seen sporting a dart player size Villa shirt, Chicago Villa, likes a pie or five.
Well done, Mr Leech for keeping the flag flying over the pond.

Are they still doing those Soccer AM commentaries over there?

BULLDOGGING: When a player shows determination to win the ball back.

CHICKEN WING BATTLE: A tussle between players, during which they use their arms and elbows to fight for the ball.

FINAL SIGNAL: The final whistle.

IN THE WHEELHOUSE: Within easy reach of the goalkeeper.

KNOCK LIKE A BEAR KISS: A tackle that is more clumsy than dangerous, but appears to be worse than it actually is.

MATCH UPS: Man marking.

MIDFIELD STRIPE: The halfway line.

ON FRAME: A shot on target.

ON THE DOORSTEP: In front of the goal.

REAL ESTATE: Used to describe the space or lack of space in the penalty area.

ON THE DIAGONAL SURFACE: A cross-field pass.

SLOW ROLLER: A weak shot at goal.

SOME WHEELS: A quick turn of pace.

SOUTHPAW: A left-footed player.

STUTTER STEP: A Cristiano Ronaldo style step-over.

TAKEAWAY: An interception or tackle after which the player comes away with the ball.

UPLOAD: To kick the ball with full power.

Thank You Legion!  Hope to see as many North American Villans as possible.  The Chicago guys are phenomenal, and last year's turnout for the Villa-Fire game was amazing.

We were out in Chicago for the game last year and had a great time. Unfortunately I will not be able to make it this time.

I was in a bar in New York a few years ago watching one of our games with the New York Lions. One thing i did find strange was that they applauded every time we got a corner.

I mentally switch off, take a nap when we get a corner, such is the sheer unlikeliness of anything happening from it.

If you go in the summer you should go to Wrigley Field too, a great piece of American tradition right there even if you know nothing about baseball, just sit in the stands and enjoy the beers!
