Mervyn King on Desert Island Discs
« on: June 02, 2013, 12:15:11 PM »
Villa fan Mervyn King - outgoing Governor of The Bank Of England - has just been on Desert Island Disks and one of his choices was 'Rotterdam '82' sung by Doug O'Brien. Even Kirsty Young liked it! He said it it was relatively unknown but he plays it wherever he goes and it is very popular.  He is right. I have searched but can't find it. Can anybody?

Villa fan from Erdington. Must have been financed personally. Probably only a few pressings made because of the costs.

I remember asking George Gavin about this when he worked for brmb and was delighted a couple of days later when he sent me the cassette with his regards , a catchy song, better than Ricky disoni with his hey aston villa.

Catchy indeed. Sir Mervyn and Kirsty Young both said the same.

Catchy song, sounded a bit like Billy Brag at the start.

Apparently when Tommy Hitz played for us he used to visit Mervyn King at the Bank of England and discuss world finance.

You very rarely get the whole track played on Desert Island Discs.

They played more of it on Desert Island Discs.  It was shortened on iPlayer for copyright reasons or something. Has no-one got access to the  complete track?
