Ron Manager- indeed Ian Lavender is a Villa fan and hence the Villa scarf he wore through the Dads Army series.

yes,
I was unconvinced about that, until I saw him on a documentary type programme about Dads Army and he confirmed that it is indeed a Villa scarf,

Well I had some dealings with Ian Lavender He ran the school chess club and was our house captain. Never once did he give any indication that he was even faintly interested in football let alone the Villa.

I have no idea as to where, if anywhere, Ian Lavender's footballing allegiances may or may not lie. Pike, on the other hand, most definitely wore a Villa scarf. It was reflective of the era, one in which we were still held in high regard as unquestionably the biggest club on the planet. Which makes him a glory hunter.

I've seen ian lavender also saying on tv that he wore the scarf in dads army because he is a villa fan and he insisted the scarf worn by pike was claret and blue.

He is a lifelong supporter of Aston Villa, and when filming began on Dad's Army, he was allowed to choose Frank Pike's scarf from an array in the BBC wardrobe. He chose a claret and blue scarf - Aston Villa's colours.

Also mentioned below -

Ex-Eastender Ian has supported Aston Villa for more than five decades, ever since his days at the old Bournville Tech.
For years his character Private Pike in the much-loved sitcom Dad's Army wore a claret and blue scarf.
"I was most upset when people started saying 'Why does Private Pike support West Ham?', remembers Ian.
"He doesn't! It's Aston Villa - always was, always will be and still is!
"I shall be in Los Angeles visiting my granddaughter on the day of the match and I shall probably take (the scarf) with me and go and watch the match in the big English bar in Santa Monica."

The pictures from the funeral were the time in ages I had seen Malc Stent. The years don't look like they've been kind to him.

Sad news to hear someone, who obviously had a lot of love for the club has passed away.

When ever I hear him mentioned, I always have a little chuckle, remembering him trying to sing You'll Never Walk Alone, when playing Liverpool, during the last game in front of the old Holte End. Poor bloke took some stick!

RIP Holte Ender In The Sky.

Don't think that was him, was it?

Wasnt it dave chance?

Bournville I think

Bournville Tech, not far from the Woodlands Hospital although neither are called by those names now.

Thanks Chris - what they called now?

I used to live in Woodlands Park and then Mulberry Rd on the BVT estate.

The school is, I think, just Bournville School. I know it's highly regarded with parents keen to get their kids in and I think it has some sort of business specialism.

The hospital is just The Royal Orthopaedic (ROH to staff) but still called the Woodlands by most people over 40.
